What is NTLDR?

I've tried to reinstall my OS but I keep getting a "NTLDR is missing" message. What is it and how do I get it back into/on my machine?

Re: What is NTLDR?

You can run a repair of Windows. You need to boot to Windows CD 1. make your BIOS to boot from CD first. 2. boot to your Windows OS cd. 3. Press R to repair. 4. select the OS version. 5. type chkdsk /r on the prompt. 6. it will start a process and restart. 7. this time let the PC boot normaly. should work. Hey I faced the similar issue and got it resolved thru *** tech guys.

Re: What is NTLDR?

Do you have a floppy disk in the drive? Is your boot sequence incorrect, do you have multiple drives, or a USB Memory device installed. You have no idea where the OS installation disk or your application disks are. You care about what's on the drive, as you have no backups of your data. If the answer to these question are all no, then simply REFORMAT the drive when you install the operating system. Make sure that you REMOVE all other drives, so you don't get confused about what drive you are installing to. P.D. P.S. Let us know if you still need help, if you can't re-install from scratch, I may be able to walk you through repairing your OS installation. P.P.S MS-DOS will not read most NT(2K,XP) installations, as it cannot normally read NTFS volumes. The 2K and XP Install CDs provide a recovery console that work like dos, but the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows ( ) blows the recovery console away. :)

Re: What is NTLDR?

If you have problems re-installing windows with NTLDR (New Technology Loader), the boot.ini file that it uses is damaged. I have only managed to get this sorted with a Full copy of windows as the recovery cd you get with some pc's have only the ability to restore your pc back to it's original state, which means a complete re-format first, giving no option for the recovery console. Even when using a full windows copy, the recovery console repairs did not work because it became apparent the HDD was damaged. You should however be able to install windows again assuming you have your cd/dvd drive as the first boot device but you will be better re- formating the drive when prompted as re installing over the top of windows can still cause problems. If you know what your doing you can copy the 'NTLDR' from the i386 folder on the disc, in to system by using a boot disk to get into msdos.

Ntldr missing message

This was a big issue with Win2k! Unfortunately, even though there are a lot of walkthoughs on how to fix this, most of them don't work (my experience anyways)! With Win2K, once you fix the NTLDR issue you would get another issue and so on, was typically easier to reinstall the OS from scratch.

You could try running your Restore Disc and hope that it fixes the issue. If it is a simple Boot Loader issue it just might work! Unfortunately there isn't much one can do online to solve the issue.

NTLDR is missing

Check your setup settings (BIOS) to make sure your booting from the correct drive. If the computer is trying to boot from the cd drive or USB, rather than the hard drive, you will receive this error message.

My computer is a HP compaq dc 7900. It doesn't start. It keeps on showint NTLDR is missing. What can I do to fix the mess ?

NTLDR is the small program that launches the kernel - the core of Windows. Without it nothing will work. If you have a Windows XP retail install disk you could do a Repair install - that would put back the NTLDR file. If you have just an recovery disk then the only way to fix your problem is to fully reinstall Windows using that disk. That will wipe everything so if you need to recover your files before wiping use a Linux Live-cd to copy them. One like

Trying to restore computer now message pops up saying ntldr is missing what can i do if restore disks wont work

You will need to reinstall the ntldr command in order for your install to continue. If you have the physical restore disk, you will need to perform a clean install. When you try to reinstall the restore function without deleting old files, they may be to problem and need to be deleted.

Good Luck

I have a gateway laptop (no cd, preloaded) Keep

Your missing the file from the nt detect application on the C: drive You will need to obtain a good copy of windows or find an OS that you can work around it with. I would try using Ubuntu as a live session disk and replacing the corrupted nt detection files from a disk or website.

this might help you

If you have the OS disks try a repair first. Run the OS disk and choose the repair option rather than reformatting. That usually fixes ntldr issues.
