Simply press the menu key and ash(*) key and the key pad will lock it self.
Or press the menu key, scroll to setting, press select key, scroll to phone setting, press select key, scroll to key guard setting, press select key, then you can now choose either theautomatic key guard or you want to use your on code.
When using the automatic keyguard, you specify the the seconds you want your phone to stay before being automatically locked up and presss ok.
The ringer on the Philips CD4402B/37 CAN be turned off by holding down
the # key on the dial pad for about 3 seconds (see CD 440 Manual, page
8, Item "I"). And a little "canceled note" icon appears in the screen. To turn the ringer ON when it is off, do the same!

Try pressing the button right under the display, then follow screen directions. Usually it's a two button sequence such as:
1. Button under display
2. Asterisk key *

try code 1000, that seems to be standard lock code pre-set for the phones, else take battery out for about 10 minutes or so ( this will likely erase your info, but you cannot get to it anyway). good luck!
Unplug the battery. Hold down The * (star) and the #(hash) keys simultaneously. Re-connect the battery, phone will beep and screen will be blank. Press the voicemail (righthand silver key under the lcd screen). As above EEPROM/RAM message will appear. Place handset on base and your problem is solved.
