Being new to this, the other Fix was more of a rough draft. Here is a better improved solution.
I hate to say this all sounds too familiar. I also fought with exactly the same troubles. I was able to force the tray open using the open button and pulling with my finger nails or other slim object under the the front and center of the tray. It made a funny (sic) unusual rattling noise when sliding, like a belt had broke or something else. The player was a gift to me for christmas '08 so with that and my handyman curiosity & capabilities I had to try and fix it. Once I got the top off (details not here) I found that an axel with its wheel were coming apart (broken). I Superglued the wheel but that only lasted a couple days. The wheel helps guide a belt that drives the tray forward & backward. I figure its faulty hardware & manufacturing that should be handled as such. Good Luck to anyone whom this may help. My heart goes out to you. Tom.

Have you checked to see if it is off track? Sometimes when these machines get bumpbed, dropped, or fall they can jump track. You have to take the cover off and inspect to see if it is off track when it closes and opens. It should go all the way back on the track when it closes. Be careful not to shock yourself. If it is on when you do it and your hand touches the metal parts inside you can get seriously burned or shocked.
Try unplug, replug the unit back like about an hour later for the unit for resetting itself back to factory setting. If getting the same result the unit might have a shorted motor drive for the disc tray.Or shorted control panel on the unit itself.Well, this thing a basic DVD player only wright? If u can tries take it aparts and check out tries to repair it ur self that great. If u tries the shops, not worth it.Trash it.These basic DVD player only are very cheap now.U can get one brand new like $40 dollars.
Normal warranty cover maybe for a year unless extended. What could be tried is to open the side screws and remove the covers. Then you can see the loading mechanism , the main loading off the CD mechanism is coupled to the eject drive. So only after the optical head moves down will the Cd be able to come out with the tray. So look carefully and you will be able to trace the logical solution to manually turn the gear to move the mechanism to eject. If there is no jamming of the mechanism, tighten all connectorrs just to confirm the connections. If not the loading motor or the motor drive IC/controller IC is faulty.
If not familiar try to search on web for nearest service centre.
