Question about AMD MB TUL | AX480A-GF XPRESS200P RT Motherboard

Ax480 boot issue

I bulit a pc with the Ax480a xpress200 motherboard, AMD 64 3200 1.8 processor, 2 256mb sticks of GeIL ultra series 184 pin DDR SDRAM DDR400(PC 3200). The pc ran fine for 3 months but now has an issue during boot up. Everything is fine in the cmos, all of the hardware, hd an cd drive and memory is recognized. I hear one beep after it starts to boot up, it goes through the wake up to where it should start loading windows but all I get is a blank screen with a flashing cursor. Please help as I have disconnected everything and reconnected to ensure nothing was loose or not seated properly. I then tried to boot from the cd with the windows xp cd and it started to boot. Windows displays that is checking my systems hardware settings and then goes to a blank screen. All of the voltages are within spec, the cpu temp is fine and the fan speed is 3200rpm. I am lost as to what to try next.

If u haven't overclocked it yet (goes easy to 2.4 to 2.6 some more, don;t go over 1.7V though) then you should single out the problem part by booting with: 1) try 1 memory stick only 2) safe mode 3) only necessary cards, possibly gr.card only now as we all know the quality of Microsofts products, try installing a fresh copy of your legal windows OS on any other disk or even the same with the separate installation option if you must. Simply, there is no better way to find the problem. Windows xp is rather funny lately with its updates... Good luck m8

DOES K7SOM MOTHERBOARD UPGRADABLE?

Hello here is the homepage:

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Downloads/Downloads_Driver_Detail.aspx?MenuID=61&LanID=0&detailid=79#Download-2

And the + versions:

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/ECSSearch.aspx?menuid=0&lanid=0&keyword=K7SOM+

I would say no because the cpu does not exist anymore.

The only thing you can upgrade is the harddrive and the ram module.

The mainboard uses SDram and DDR ram in there own seperate block.
Sdram is hard to find and expensive.
DDRram can still be bought.

The specifications:

PROCESSORS

462 pin Socket A supports the AMD K7 processors
Full series of Athlon XP/Athlon/Duron processors
CHIPSET

SiS 740 & SiS 961/962 Chipset
SiS 740 Host/Memory controller with high quality 3D graphic accelerator
SiS 961/961B/962 MuTIOL Media I/O
Integrated USB 2.0 host controller in SiS 962
LPC I/O -ITE8705F
LAN: MAC integrated in SiS 961/961B/962 and PHY on board
AC97 Audio Codec: Compliant with AC97 2.2 specification
SYSTEM BIOS

AMI 2MB Flash EEPROM
Supports Plug and Play 1.0A, AMP 1.2, Multi Boot, DMI
Support for ACPI revision 1.0 specification
MEMORY

2 DDR DIMM Sockets and 2 DIMM sockets support (can not be used simultaneously)
Two 184-pin 2.5V DDR SDRAM (DDR266/200) or
Two 168-pin 3.3V SDRAM (PC133/PC100)
Maximum: 2GB (DDR SDRAM or SDRAM)
I/O INTERFACE

Hope this was helpfull

How do you know when a memory stick is single-bank? I want to upgrade my A7V8X-X with 3 Gs, but I keep getting confuse how to determent what is single-bank! Is there a specific code in the product...

This is the memory spec for your motherboard...

3 x DDR DIMM Sockets
Max. 3 GB unbuffered PC2100 / PC1600 non-ECC SDRAM Memory (PC3200 Max. to 2 banks only / PC2700 Max to 4 banks only)

Part of the memory spec will tell you if it is single sided (memory chips only on one side of board)
Double sided is memory chips on both sides of the board....Some systems will not work with double sided memory...

RAM Slot does not recognize more than 512MB ( 184 )

Consider updating your motherboard bios.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=K7VT2&o=BIOS

Also make sure that your memory is correct for this system:

- Max. capacity of system memory: 2GB DDR or 2GB SDRAM
- DDR x 2, DDR266/200 non-ECC, un-buffered memory
- SDRAM x 2, PC133/100 non-ECC, un-buffered memory

Upgrade of RAM

184 pin DDR DIMM is the correct information :) The bus speed of the ram would range from PC 2100 - PC 3200. I assume the Max amount of ram will probably be 2gb though unless your motherboard specifies a higher amount.

Regarding upgrading RAM

You'll need 184-pin ddr sdram memory
Supported speeds are 333, 266, and 200 mhz
Max memory for your motherboard is 2 gb, so the best you can get for your motherboard is:
2 x 1GB 333mhz 184-pin DDR SDRAM
