Yes the probable cause of this was a missed behaved anti virus program. Formating your computer and installing a new operating system would work, but there is still one option to perform. Why not try to repair your xp installation instead . If you run your xp operating system setup disk, At first you will be prompted to repair or install a new operating system, then press enter to install a new os. After pressing f8 it will search for a recent xp installation . select repair and leave the current file system intact no changes. But if you really want to change your operating system XP to Win7, yes it will work with your computer, but the softwares and programs that you'll need will also have to be compatible with win7. The most important thing here is your computers drivers installation. If you have your computer drivers installation cd, you could proceed. Have a nice day .

Sometimes, recent hardwares (laptop components) don't have its drivers for XP1 & 2. (It conflicts.)
Try with XP3. Otherwise, you have to reinstall win7 and run win XP virtually under win7.

I have 3 PC and a laptop. I have been using Zip 100 disks to save data and move it between them. My oldest, a Win95 machine can be revised as a Win98SE but it will lose all data in the process. Currently...

Hi mattbarrett2 !
Hi , I was in a similar situation a while ago , meaning I needed to back up a Win95 HDD .
I succeeded by taking the drive out of the desktop and connecting it to a win 7 pc . I first tried by putting the drive in a external USB box and connecting it to the Win7 machine . It was a Quantum drive . The pc recognized the drive in the Device Manager but I couldn' access the data in " My Computer " . Then , I connected the Quantum inside my Win7 machine , directly to the IDE port but not using the power plug yet . I booted the computer , waited for Win 7 to be settled and connected the Quantum to the power plug and it worked . I was able to transfer the full content
( 1 GB , ha ha ! ) on a dvdrom and format the Quantum afterwards . I didn't need it anymore but I could have easily placed it back into the Win95 unit and install a new supported OS on it .
Maybe this will help you ?
Best regards ,
fanaudi .

HOW CAN I MAKE MY SHARP 1L 1661CS WORK WITH MY NEW DELL VOSTRO 430 WITH WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL? THE COMPUTER TECH WHO SET UP THE NEW COMPUTER SAID THAT WINDOWS 7 DOESN'T SUPPORT THE SHARP, BUT OTHERS...

With Win7 Pro, you can download and install two programs from Microsoft. You need Virtual PC and XP mode. Download and install them in order from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx . You will have to assign an amount of memory to dedicate to the XP computer during the setup. Then open the program and install your laser printer to the new virtual XP computer on your Win7 machine as you normally would install the printer to XP. If you need the drivers, they are available here: http://www.sharpusa.com/CustomerSupport/ProductDownloads.aspx?downloadtype=Driver&category=HomeOfficePrintersFaxMachines&model=AL-1661CS& .

However, your files can't be shared directly. You will need to save them to external media (optical disc or flash drive) and then transfer them.

I hope this helps.

How to format pc please show me how

Before you do format your harddrive back up your drivers onto a flash pen or cd first there are free programs on the net to do this. For some reason installing xp to a system you can put money on it you wont have the network driver.

Your going to need an external cdrom as i dont think the ASUS 900 has one? What you need to do is boot from an operating system cd (eg. XP or Win7 or what ever your using) then follow the instructions on screen to guide you through formating and installing of a new operating system.
As i dont know what OS your installing i cant give a step by step guide but the on screen instructions are simple to follow.

Speakers are not working

Hi, Normally you click start then right click My Computer or Computer in Win7, click properties, on the next screen click device manager top left, then you should see an exclamation mark next to the sound sound icon, open this with the + sign, right click the sound card and click update driver2_bing.gif, this should then search online, if it doesnt then right click the the sound card2_bing.gif again and click uninstall. After youve done this then at the top click ACTION and the SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES, it will then search online for the latest driver, this one will work.

Thanks Mark ;-)

Windows 7 conversion windows xp soft wear

I assume you want to go from XP to Win7 which is not supported by Microsoft.
Laplink make an excellent and cheap product called pcmover Upgrade Assistant which does the job brilliantly on either the same PC or moving to another and upgrading to Win7.
http://www.laplink.com/pcmover/
You install it on the XP system and save a small file it generates. Then install Win7 as a custom install (without formatting) and re-install pcmover. Select the file you saved and a couple of minutes later pretty much everything is back under the new system ( afew things may need redoing like some drivers, AV software etc. but it's minimal)
Have used this on a number of conversions from XP and Vista to Win7 and it works great.
