Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

Goldstar microwave won't turn off bottons stuck I have a Goldstar MV1502W over the range microwave. Recently, the unit cooked something at a reduced power setting. After the timer ran out it continued to run, the light went out inside the oven, the turntable stopped spinning but you could hear the magnetron still running. Opening the door did not stop it, pressing stop button on the front panel did not stop it, last resort was to pull the plug. This stopped the unit. I let it sit awhile and then reapplied power it has operated satisfactorily for the last few days. I believe the timer board is on the way out.

I am not sure it it the timer. The unit has now worked properly for two days. I am not sure the timer would cause this problem. I would hate to send the timer for repair and they find nothing wrong. This microwave being an over the range model makes it very difficult to work on and a big hole in my kitchen when under repair.

Thank you, that sounds more believe-able. I appreciate the detail explanation.

    Happy Holidays,

If you had to pull the power cord to make it stop, you have a sticking relay on the control board.

It's intermittent now, but once it fails hard, we'll be happy to help you.

(Then maybe I can get that rating up to a Fixya?)

NOTE: Just be sure you don't leave it unattended while it's cooking.

That's a standard rule for microwave use anyway, but it's even more important in cases like this.

    Be safe and Happy Holidays.

    This is for everyone:
If your microwave ever comes on by itself, there is a serious danger of a fire.

Please do not leave it unattended while you are cooking with it (you shouldn't anyway!) and always leave it unplugged when it is not being used.

None of the bottons work on my microwave and only the "L" for light is lit up on the display

A serial/model number would help... MV1526W? MV1604SBQ? I apologize for needing to ask, but am not that familiar with them. I would unplug the entire unit and let it rest for at least 30 seconds, and even try to push buttons while unplugged to dispel latent static electricity within the system. Then plug it in and see if you still have the problem.

I have found a website that may help, depending if they have uploaded your particular model.

MV1502W/B It just stopped heating. It turns on.

The magnetron (the part that heats the food) may be bad or the circuitry to the magnetron may have burned out. Basically my advice is that if you have no electrical expertise, it isn't worth fixing. The magnetron if bad, costs almost as much as a new microwave. If you open it up (make sure it has been unplugged for a few hours and don't seen any obvious burnt parts (including a fuse and the diodes), then most likely the magnetron is done and a new microwave is the way to go.

Let me know how this works out for you.

We have a Goldstar mv1310w microwave that the lights have quit working on. This is the light over the range that you can turn on while cooking on the stove. We put new bulbs in and I even show voltage on...

mcdevito75 here, It could be the light sockets are dirty from cooking fumes, oil etc, remove power from the sockets and clean them with alcholol and cotton swabs or paper towels etc.

I would say yes, this can be fixed. It's most likely a relay with burned contacts.

Goldstar

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Otherwise, you may have a failing keypad. It can fail due to age, moisture, etc.

PLEASE Let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.

We have the service manual available to us.

Microwave problem turntable spinning after replacing door switches

Make sure the switches are connected EXACTLY as the original ones, maybe one was connected incorrectly. It also can be the controller board.
