I turn on the TV, the power light blinks (In a varying order, I surmize it is trying to tell me an error code. But I have no way of telling what it is) and the unit shuts off. I get sound but no picture.

Hi, there is no lamp door and it doesnt have a lamp neither since your tv is a CRT (Cathodic Ray Tube), only DLP's and LCD Projection TV's, For this issue you will really need to consult it with a Repair Center, CRT's are very frindly to fix, and it could be a issue on a small component if it is it will be very cheap to fix.
Code 22 indicates that your set is in shut down due to what is called Short Protect. The most likely cause is the Converge Ic's drawing too much current and opening one or 2 fuses. Normal repair cost varies by area and servicer. Expect 250 to 350 plus the service call. I normally do this on site.
