This means a fault has occurred and you will need the dealer to scan the computer for the fault codes.

SOURCE: I have a Saab 9-3 TDi 2001. The engine warning

Hi
If your engine warning light has come on this is indicating there in a serious problem and the limp mode has been switched on to safe guard the engine. It could be a number things, but I'll give you some basic things to look at which may help you.

  1. Check all fluids are are the correct levels - engine oil, radiator water level in overflow tank usual beside the radiator.
  2. Also check transmission fluid level if it is an automatic, from the dipstick.
If all these are ok then check these areas:
  1. Air Filter and housing has no blockage.
  2. Fuel filter may need replacing or water separator is filled with water, loosen valve at the bottom of fuel filter and drain the excess water. Fuel should not come out just water if there is any.
If all these are ok then there is a problem regarding sensor faults, fuel pump timing, and further in depth diagnosis will be needed. Hope this is helpful, let me know how you get on.

SOURCE: abs and traction lights stay on saab 9 3 2005 1.9

The abs light , when on turns off the traction control thats why that light is on,once the abs is repaired the traction light will go out, you need to first have the computer scanned for codes, the codes for the abs are stored in the abs computer, these codes will tell you what part of the system is not working. most of the time its a wheel speed sensor but scanning the codes is needed to find out,

Had this sign limited performance pop up on my dashboard of my 2007 Saab 9-3 1.9tdi had some one look at it they plugged it in and come up with cruise control switch ? and im getting abit of turbolag

I can't see it myself even though I have no experience of the car model.

Lots of the vehicle content is Vauxhall/Opel/GM (I think) suitably modified by Saab.
It doesn't sound logical that a dodgy cruise control switch would cause reduced performance. A reduced performance condition is usually caused by something that affects tailpipe emissions or something affecting engine integrity or reliability.

I heard on the grapevine some Vauxhall models have reduced performance simply because they are overdue for some maintenance and once the service indicator has been reset they are fine again. I don't know how true this is. I know of one Vauxhall that flags up an overboost fault and cuts performance when there is an egr valve fault. The true cause could not be discovered by a generic obd scanner and it was only when it was plugged into something with some very expensive dedicated software that it became obvious.

There is no telling what the Saab boffins have done to the management programmes. There are vehicles around that go into reduced performance if the oil level or pressure is low and maybe they thought that might be a good idea.

I suggest you continue your Saab research at the local Saab dealer or on one of the specialised forums, but certainly I suggest you get the code re-read by a dedicated diagnostic machine.

Limited performance now wont start

limited performance indicates that the ecm put the engine in the low power mode due to a problem encountered with a sensor ( low oil level-pressure, overheat /low coolant level, gear box temperature over heat, loose position sensor/s . Run the fault codes first to determine where the faults are. Check that the cam shaft is turning ( broken timing belt)

Gearbox malfunction appears on screen

the gearbox goes in limp mode if it detects any problem with either transmission or engine, if you have misfire in thengine, the transmission module might put it in limp home mode, have your car scanned for issues.

Hi, i am looking to find out what the probable causes are for my saab 1.9 8v 2007 diesel to go into limited performance mode thanks craig.

Hi you really need to get the trouble codes read out the engine ecu but from experience the most likely cause is the EGR valve or throttle body.

Hope this helps
