SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

My camera says the memory card is locked and memory card error appears when I turn on the camera. I've read that I have to format the card, but won't the photos be destroyed? How can I get my pictures

There is a tab on the memory card so you will you need to remove it from the camera and change the position of this tab to "unlock" it. DO NOT format the card until you've BACKED UP your files from it (typically to a PC or USB drive (stick or external hard drive).

First, get a card reader (they're very cheap) and use it to download the pics from the card. Then, re-insert the card into the camera and go into the menu and find "format"....follow the on-screen instructions to completely erase the card and optimize it for your new camera.

I've had the Samsung L200 with the same Panasonic 1GB memory card for the last 3 years and it's been great, but all of a sudden today it started saying 'memory full' after only taking a few...

The camera is telling you that the internal memory is full. To get your card to work, you must clear it. With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format" and follow the on-screen instructions to erase the internal memory. Then, your card should work unless you formatted it in the computer, in which case you'll have to format (completely erases it) it in the camera.

I have a canon ixus 700. i've tried to insert a new SanDisk 4 GB memory card. the menu says the card is locked when (i've treble-checked) it definitely is not locked. i read from others that...

According to the specs on Canon's web site, the IXUS 700 works with SD cards, not SDHC cards. SD cards are limited to 2GB in size (there are rare 4GB SD cards, but they tend not to work in SD devices).

Of course, it's your call as to how definitive any manufacturer's web site touting their product might be.

Have you tryed connecting the camera to the PC with a USB cable? This might help you access the SD card and hopefully allow you to copy the files.

Is there any way to retrieve pictures from memory card that says card error in camera

You can try another camera which uses the same card type.

Does yours or a friends pc/laptop have a card reader built in ?

You could try a photo processing shop, see if their card reader can see your pictures.

You can buy multi-card readers which connect to a pc via a usb port.

If you've tried 2 or more of the above, and they all say the same. Your card has had it and you've probably lost the pictures.

Put in card and it says unsupported card

Hi, you need to format your memory card to suit your camera. You can do this by following the instructions in your manual. This is a simple step and make's your memory card "compatible" with your camera. the option will be somewhere in your camera's settings.
