If it enter in middle of loading Operating System then it is not Poser switch problem the is problem in your OS.
Try this
When bios appear press F8 key and choose "Known last good configuration " from the menu.

This may fix your problem.

The local municipal power supply cut on and off intermittently and several times browned out over the last week. the PC could only be restarted after unplugging for a while. Often this had to be repeated...

sometimes in side the power supply over time the parts go bad a little at a time. it will work as lone as you leave it on but if you turn in off the switch mode power supply will not restart due to the parts that go bad. replace the power supply and it should be ok. there could be other things but this is the most likely.

My computer wil not shut down it re boots straight away

Hold the power switch down until the computer shuts down all the way. It should not reboot again unless you have a bad power switch.

I cannot shutdown my Windows 7 computer. It never shuts off so when I have to restart for an update, it never shuts down completely and just comes back up to the desktop.

Hi there,

Check if a particular program is slowing the machine when you switch on or shut down, e.g. an anti virus program.

Go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Performance Information and Tools > Advanced Tools (in the left pane). On this screen the problem is sometimes shown. If not, click View Performance Details in Event Log (Event Viewer). Events in the 100 series are boot events and I believe those in the 200 series are shut down events. These can be followed up by double-clicking them, then clicking Event Log Online at the bottom.

Hope this initial information helps. Let me know for further instructions.

Thanks.

Gateway GT4010 boots then starts beeping and shuts off

First check your power supply section and check your power fan that is running properly. if ok then the suspected area is your processor section. please check it if its collar fan nor running properly then clean up or change that. and the other advice is please check your processor pin which are too tiny. be careful about these.

Comp. powers on, shuts down three times then goes into powersave

You may want to check the power supply fan whether it works properly or not. Also, you may need to check your BIOS setup if you had done anything with it.

Come on, boots up, then shuts down 5 - 10 minutes later.

check your power options make sure you don't have hibernation enabled, its in the system control panel. try booting from a linux live cd like Ubuntu which you can download for free. If it runs fine under linux, its a windows problem, if it keeps shutting down its a hardware problem. Could be bad ram, or CPU overheating.

The Computer has trouble restarting Windows XP. I have to shut it down and unplug it for at least 2 minutes in order for it to start normally past the black screen. Otherwise, it will keep restarting...

I'm guessing from what you are saying, that it will in fact boot to safe mode. the culprit is most likely a resently added program. my other favourite is thermal shut down. remove the cover (after it is shut down and power is removed) and see if it's filled with dust and dirt. when the case is off start the computer up. are all the fans working as well ?

keep start button pressed 30 seconds, the pc should turn off. If not brutally unplug the power cable. Do a scan disk on restart.
