Question about Nikon D80 Digital Camera with 18-135mm Lens

1 Answer

My nikon d80 will take a picture in M mode only

When I set the camera into A mode, the autofocus will not come into play. Neither will the camera take a picture. The flash will come up, but that's it. The battery is fully charged. The camera has not been used for several months. It has been reset. I am a novice user.

There are 2 swtiches of the AF on the D80. 1st is on the lens itself and 2nd is on the left side just below the lens release lock. A/M .. set both to A for auto. cheers.

I am new user for DSLR, using old 50 mm 1.8 manual focus on D80, unable to see any inmage on playback (shows information). Will this lens work with D80, using settings as manual mode, f22 . Please guide...

Turn the aperture ring to its smallest setting (largest f/number). You control the aperture from the camera body, as on a lens without an aperture ring. Turn the mode dial to M (manual). The camera's exposure meter will not work with this lens. You can use another lens to get an approximate exposure, or take pictures and review them and/or use the histogram to fine-tune the exposure. The camera won't autofocus, of course, but the in-focus indicator in the viewfinder will still light up to indicate proper focus.

My 18-135mm lens on a D80 will not autofocus. My other lenses are fine so it is not the camera?

In AF-S mode, the camera will not shoot until it acquires focus. Look on page 29 of the D80 manual. If that does not help you. Then contact Nikon they will be able to walk you through some steps to see if there is something wrong with the lens. Nikon digital 1-800-645-6689

D80 SLR lens /flash prob lem

What are your other lenses? If they're not AF lenses, you're not going to get autofocus or metering.

Is your flash not working when popped up? Remember that the flash won't pop up automatically in Manual mode.

I have the Nikon 18-200 lense and it will not autofocus on my D80. I tried other lenses on the camera and they auto focused, so I presumed it was the camera. I sent it for repair, received it after being...

Try you 18-200 lens on another Nikon DSLR. If it still does not Autofocus. It is the lens. Sometimes the electrical contact points of the lens are not making correct contact with the camera. ok?

Looks focused but isn't

Try this.

Switch D80 on.
Reset the camera by pressing the two buttons with a green dot beneath them on the top of the D80, right hand side.
The buttons are AF and +-.
These must be pressed together at the same time for a few seconds.
This is just in case you have set something strange, you do not need to do this all the time.

Set the command dial to Auto.
Set the button on the lower front/left hand side to AF.
Set the lens to A.

Now you can just take pictures, the D80 will autofocus and set the exposure itself.

Problem shooting portrait

That's just the quirky autofocus of the d80. Try tilting the camera diagonally to focus and tilting back up to shoot.
Unfortunately, autofocus issues like those are the difference between a d80 and a d200/d300 :/

D50 autofocus

Check two switchs, one on the camera body and one on the lens. Make sure they are both set to AF. At least that is how it is on my D80
