Hi, No compression means - The rings in the piston needs to be replaced, or the valves are stuck in the open or closed position. One or both of these is your problem.

If this doesn’t work for you, please write back. Thanks,

Either the valves are out adjustment or the decompressor has failed.

Most OHV valves valve clearance open over time causing the decompression system to become in effective; however, the decopressor fails and even properly adjusted valves will still will not decompress the cylinder for starting.

I just repair a B&S 310000 series that had so much compression that the engine would even complete a cycle. After checking the valve adjustment I found that the decompressor on the cam had failed.

My 2001 ford escape won't start . I checked all

Can\'t really help you with the no start problem without more information, but would advise you to stop using starting fluid right away. Starting fluid is hard on Diesel engines but they are made for much higher compression so will usually survive intermittent use of starting fluid. Gas engines just plain can\'t handle the much higher than normal compression that starting fluid produces which will destroy valves, piston rings, connecting rods, starters, ring gears on the transmission and head gaskets in short order. If you don\'t want to have to completely rebuild your gas engine don\'t use starting fluid on it ever!

Thermadyne predator has one cylinder not firing

Check or replace ignition wire, spark plug spark plug coil. Run a cylinder compression check. Should have same compression on both cylinders. If not, burnt valve, or flat cam lobe.

Having problems with B&S 18.5 HP Intek. Turns 1-2

This sounds like a compression release issue, which is directly related to the OH valves needing adjustment. Remove the valve cover and adjust the valves per B & S exact instructions and your starting issue will likely be solved. The valves are needed to be adjusted periodically on these machines. The compression release feature works off of the camshaft and is controlled by the action to the intake valve. It works at low speeds and then cancels as the engine starts running.
Many, many users have this problem and are unaware of the compression release mechanism and the fact that the valves periodically require adjusting, They tend to blame their starting problems on a weak or bad battery, which this problem mimics quite well.

My compressor turns on and hums for 30 secs. and then the overload protection clicks. It will not start ''compressing'' Hitachi 2 horsepower 4 gallon

Sounds like the pump is siezed or the starter capacitor has burnt out. I would try to get to the armature on the motor and see if you can turn it by hand.
If you can't turn it, remove the head of the pump to see if the valves are ok and that nothing is jamming the piston from moving ( rust, broken rings, bits of valve ).
If the piston is ok, it may be a siezed bearing.
Happy hunting

My 1965 ford tractor will not fire on a cylinder. I have replaced starter, spark plugs, plug wires & disrtibutor cap what next ?

Do you have compression in that cylinder? How did the plug look when you removed it?Was it black and oily?Black and sooty?Did it smell of gas?Did you change your points and condenser?By tractor will not fire on a cylinder,do you mean spark?Check for compression on that cylinder first. No compression, remove the valve cover and look for a broken spring or a stuck valve. Both won't allow that cylinder to build compression.Another thing is a burned valve,it won't be able to seal. You can sometimes hear which one that's bad by removing all the spark plugs except on the bad cylinder. Then turn over the engine and listen at the exhaust and carburetor. You'll hear the air going by the valve that's bad. This is allot of info,I know.Try to check the compression and look at those valves if it's not the points.

353 husqvarna chainsaw, floods during start process

Husqvarna says the initial carburetor needle valve settings are from lightly seated 1 turn CCW for both H & L.

Once flooded Huskys are very hard to start. This works well on my 359.
Start Procedure
Cold:
  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close - sets fast idle) pull starter and listen for an attempt to start. once heard (usually two pulls)
  4. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  5. Push (open) choke pull starter until it starts. (usually the next pull)
Warm:
  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close - sets fast idle) choke, - Don’t pull with choke closed.
  4. Push (open - fast idle maintained) choke, pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull)
Hope this helps
Lou
