I turn on the Television and the picture shows as if it's going to stay on and then suddenly the picture goes black and no sound or picture at all, just a "Stanby" light blinking on and off. I have tried to pull the plug to the television and then plug it in again... it worked last night, but tonight it's doing the same thing again. HELP!!!
How many times does the timer light flash between pauses? That will be a starting point.
My Sony KDL V40 XBR1 when the picture goes off it the green light goes Red and it blinks 9 times and a few succesions afterwards.

We followed the 'simple' troubleshooting tips then called the service center. As mentioned above 4 blinks indicates a bad panel. The repairman that visited said that he is ordering a new power supply (much cheaper than the back panel) for their first try. I will post again when my set is back on.

check out this link. it says sony will send you an update. they are aware of the glitch. our model is not listed as one of the affected models, but i bet if we dig around more, or notify them, we should be able to fix

4 times. It keeps doing this forever...it never stops. I sent it to an authorized service center and they are looking at it now...no answers as of yet.
We will find out if your right...it's still at the sony authorized dealer to be fixed. Thank you for all your help. Any idea how much a new panel costs???
yes my tv goes on then it shuts off and the standby light blinks on and off!
i have the same problem. and of course, i lost my receipt and circuit city has no record of my purchase. (i think the customer service guy was just incompetent, i'm going to try another circuit city)
it happened to me 6 months ago. i unplugged the set for a month (yes, a month), and it didn't happen again until recently. i have a feeling if i ever send it back to sony, the problem won't happen at the service center (damn that murphy's law)
