Question about Kenmore 30464 / 30465 / 30469 Gas Single Oven

1 Answer

My kenmore oven stopped working. I made one batch of muffins, it was fine, the next one - the heat went out. Turned it off and back on,nothing. The broiler and the top burners still work.

First let me say I HATE MY KENMORE OVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, then . My oven will ignite at first and then when it is running for a little while I hear the ignitor clicking but it won't lite. My husband replaced the ignitor but we still had the same problem.. $50.00 later we had the Sears repair guy come over and he said if we hadn't replaced the part he would have suggested we do so. He checked things out and said the problem was a screw that when it got hot wasn't making a connection...I don't even remember..something about "grounding" so he "fixed the screw". two days later my oven was doing the same thing. Guy came back put in a new screw. It's still doing it. He said if that doesn't fix it it would be a computer problem which would cost about $300-$400 to fix. I want to throw the damn thing out the window. Someone help!!!

Hi all - the SAME thing happened to me. My teen daughter & I were baking gingerbread cookies this weekend. We've had the ovent for 10 years now, and it's been completely reliable. Then, Saturday morning we pre-heated the oven to 375 deg, and put in batch #1 (4 sheets) of gingerbread cookies. 8 minutes later they came out perfectly, and we began putting them on the cooling racks. While the cookie sheets were cooling outside, we began rolling & cutting-out batch #2...

Less than 15 minutes later, the next batch was ready on their sheets, and in the oven they went....

...then 5 min went by, and they didn't look quite cooked...

...then 10 min went by, and they STILL didn't look cooked. In fact, it was at this point that I noticed that while the oven's digital display was still SHOWING 375 deg, in fact it was only barely just warm inside.

Before I could do anything, my daughter hit the "Stop" button, and tried to start the oven again. It reset back to its normal unused state, but once she hit Bake > 375 > Start, both of us saw the display - which WAS reading 375 deb - now show only 141 deg !

    :-(

That might be a clue/hint that either the display or the microprocessor inside had finally failed - not "the gas" itself. It would also explain why the stove burners still worked fine, since they didn't require the microprocessor at all. It doesn't quite explain why the broiler still worked, other than the broiler doesn't probably use the microprocessor either, since it has only 2 settings - Hi and Lo.

That all said, what is the most economical way to get the stove/oven serviced?

    Any ideas?

    - Mark

Spooky! My Kenmore oven gave out in exactly the same way as first two posters. Broiler and stove works. Have either of you found out anything more? I'm paralyzed fearing my only option is to get a new unit, not exactly planned in the small household budget (gulp)

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.

Oven has stopped heating, and automatic interior light has also stopped working. Fan still works though - any ideas?

Stove possibly has a fuse panel which is usually in the inside area of the switches and there is usually one for each burner as well as the oven. Make sure you replace with the right size fuse or you could have trouble.

Oven not working

you would have to check the element for continuity. Also the oven sensor could be suspect and should ohm out at 1180 at room temp. if both those are ok then main control is probable. without schematic it would be hard to say for sure..there may even be a safety fuse blown.

Lower oven does not work. Ind. light comes on but no heat

It sounds like your heater element is burnt out. Get a volt meter.unplug the stove.take off the back, disconnet one of the wires connected to the element and test it. It should read aproximately 11 ohms if good. if a high or no readind, the element needs replacing.

Oven elements just stopped working

If I understand your use correctly, you were using the oven to heat the space? Or for baking?

Regardless, it sounds as though the elements have failed. If you used the oven for heating the space (with the door open) the broiler element comes on during preheat of the oven to get the oven to temperature more quickly. The elements are NOT designed to heat a space, and will quickly burn out if used in this manner.

Kenmore ultrabake lights up when stove top is on but wont heat up

Hard to know...First thing I'd check is the power supply to the unit.  Turn off both breakers.  Check wiring all the way through for tightness.  Turn both breakers on.  Next, you'll need to check the elements for continuity...with the power off.
