How I can enable Hibernate and Stand By button? I have windows XP SP3

Hello,

You can enable hibernation in Windows XP by following the steps below.

1. Type powercfg.cpl in the Run window. To get the Run window press Win key + R. Or, you can go to the control panel and click on Power Options.

2. Find the Hibernate tab and click on it. Check the Enable Hibernation check box. In case its necessary, free up some space on you C: drive by running disk cleanup or your favorite system cleanup utility.

3. Now you can hibernate your system by clicking on the Start button and then on the Turn Off Computer (or Turn Off ). You'll see three standard options, Standby, Turn Off And Restart.
Hold Shift key and you'll see the Standby button turns into Hibernate button. Click to hibernate (Still holding the Shift key).

4. Optionally you can do this: Create a batch file for hibernating, and put it on you desktop. Every time you need to hibernate your system, just double click this file from your desktop. To do this, First Open up Notepad, type the following line in it.

%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState Hibernate

Then save the file as, something.bat onto your desktop. Run this batch file to hib

Or you can
manually put your computer into hibernation:
1)Open Power Options in Control Panel.
2)Click the Hibernate tab, and then select the Enable hibernate support check box.
If the Hibernate tab is not available, your computer does not support this feature.
3)Click OK to close the Power Options dialog box.
4)Click Start, and then click Shut Down. In the What do you want the computer to do drop-down list, click Hibernate.

To automatically put your computer into hibernation:
1)Open Power Options in Control Panel.
2)Click the Hibernate tab, select the Enable hibernate support check box, and then click Apply.
If the Hibernate tab is unavailable, your computer does not support this feature.
3)Click the APM tab, click Enable Advanced Power Management support, and then click Apply.
4)Click the Power Schemes tab, and then select a time period in System hibernates. Your computer hibernates after it has been idle for the specified amount of time.
Thanks

Laptop screen turns black

In Windows XP you can disable hibernation by doing the following:
1. Open Power Options in Control Panel
2. Select the Hibernate tab
3. Clear the checkbox for enabling hibernation
This doesn't work in Vista however because the GUI for Power Options has changed and doesn't offer the ability to disable hibernation. But you can disable hiberation in Vista from the command line if you use admin privileges. Here's how:
1. Press the WINDOWS key and type cmd into the Start Search box but *don't* press ENTER
2. Right-click on cmd in the Programs list and select Run As Administrator
3. Click Continue when the UAC prompt appears
4. Type powercfg -h off and press ENTER

IF this does not help write back.
