You will need a windows installation disk.

Insert the disc into the CD/DVD drive and shutdown the computer. After powering back on the computer you should be prompted with the installation screen. Follow the directions to reformat your computer.

If you have multiple partitions and would like to format only one that is not the operating system drive go to the control panel > System and security > Administrative tools > Computer Management.

Once Computer Management is open select Storage > Disk Management. You can select a partition you would like to reformat from here.

Reformating any drive will erase all data on that drive. Only do this if you are sure you want to. I would stronly recommending backing up all files you might want later.

Need to reformat my NTFS hard drive in my Toshiba L300. Have saved all data, just need to reformat, and CD ROM will not work for XP CD.

If you know what you're doing afterward, in order to format your hard drive simply click the start button, click run and type cmd and hit eneter. Then enter "format C: /fs:ntfs" without the quotation marks. Follow the prompts.

My Aspire G600P desktop has a Fat 32 file on the C drive. I have bought a Verbatim External hard drive which has Nero Back it up which has an autoback up which formats the internal hard drive with NTFS....

You cannot switch file systems and keep the data, you can however backup your data and reformat your hd, then proceed to copy from the backup media to the reinstalled OS. there are many tools to do both task, I would recommend download a linux live cd and backup to your external drive from there, then just reinstall windows and format your drive with an NTFS partition. I hope this helps.

Hi,

Are you going to put an OS on it?

If so you can use the installer to wipe the drive.
You should be able to select format with NTFS or NTFS (quick) during windows install.

Either that or while in windows right mouse clisck the C: drive and left click on Format in the context menu.

Reformating my gateway E 4100

reformatting a drive is a big undertaking, formating the drive will erase everything, including viruses, before you format you need to make sure you have all the discs including the windows disc, driver discs, and a factory restore disc, also you make check the documentation on your system because alot of the gaetway, dell, emachines systems have restore partitions installed on the drive. Also youll need alot of coffee and alot of time, most importantly aside from the windows disc youll need a driver disc for any ethernet or wireless card you have installed. without this you will not have access to the internet most likely and donloading updated drivers is very helpful. This is a time consuming proccess unless there is a restore partition on the harddrive, the documentation will tell you how toaccess it if it exists, if not a restore disc will be nice.

System restore

no a system restore can take the computer back to an earlier time, windows is usually installed to do this, a reformat has a double meaning 1st format in FAT, FAT32, NTFS and leave (these are mostly used as storage drives) 2nd reformat: this is when a new windows or linux intallation is done, hence "i had to completely reformat my drive"
