Windows displays a message saying that the device is not recognized

After applying one solution presented here, I have another problem with my wireless adapter: After I plug it into the usb, windows displays a message saying that the device is not recognized and to reconnect the device. It also says if the error occurs again, I should replace the device. Are those the only options?

Ok, there is no longer support for these adapters, and there are plenty of problems with getting them going and keeping them going. I would get a refund if they are new, if not don't waste any more time with them and buy a more user recognised product.

I had a working Dell computer - accessing the internet through a wireless router - computer became unbearably slow - re-installed Windows XP 2002 SP1 everything's fine except the network adapter that was...

You don't say what make/model of network adapter (NIC), whether it's wired or wireless, or if it was operating under the same service pack level before, so I have to make a lot of assumptions.

Is Windows really not recognizing it (ie: does it have an exclamation mark next to the NIC in device manager?) or is it being recognized by Windows but just cannot connect to the wireless router? If the latter, check your wireless configuration (SSID, WPA key, etc). Since you have WinXP SP1, it could be that there is not a driver for that particular NIC. Later service packs include updated drivers as well as bug and security fixes. Recommend you identify the NIC and if you have the driver disk for it, go into Windows device manager to select a reinstall from that disk. If you don't have it, use another computer to download its driver and after installing it and getting Internet access, you should also download and install the latest SP, which would be SP3.

No System Tray Blue Tooth Icon

The GBU321 installation software that comes with the CD was the problem. Called their tech service who made me uninstall the BlueTooth Drivers that the CD and Windows 2000 installed first, and then "directly" download and install the BROADCOM drivers. The adapter works very well now. Thanks.

What virus checker are you using? Is there also a different firewall apart from the windows one. If you have blocked your connections it will prevent you from using your wireless effectvely. Uninstall or disable the virus checker and see if the same happens. Also are you using E internet, try mozilla firefox and see if the same happens.
Another thing to check is if the adapter is using the windows manager properly. What you need to do to check it follow the following instructions.

  • Click on start and choose CONNECT TO option and click on your wireless adapter. (Wireless network connection)
  • Click on View Wireless networks
  • Scroll on your network connection and then click on change advanced settings
  • Now double click on Internet Protocol TCP/IP
  • Make sure both settings are set to automatically detect DNS address and IP address
  • Then select apply if need to change and ok to continue
  • Now click on the Tab Wireless Networks
  • Wait a few seconds and Now make sure the top box which says "Use windows to configure my wireless network" has a tick next to it, if now click on box.
  • Click on Apply and ok, or just ok if no apply option
  • Close all windows and restart computer.
  • Now see if the device connects and click on your browser and see how it works.
Any questions if still not working please give details.

Usb network adapter

you network adapter either is not installed or the OS recognized it as a "generic adapter" and apply an appropriate driver for the said hardware. this is good but sometimes the windows just apply the nearest driver close to what is you driver...

if you network adapter is brand new chances are that you still got the disk came with the package and just uninstall the window's xp driver and reinstall it. if you dont have the disk just look at the website of the said adapter.

if you are using windows xp
1. click control panel
2. click the icon "system"
3. at the hardware tab click the "device manager" and look for the network adapter branch
4. if you can see a network adapter installed right click it and click uninstall...
5. reboot and let them window automatically search and reinstall your adapter.
6. if you the windows don't automatically install it, go back to control panel and click "add hardware" and install the hardware manually

hope this help...

Keep getting the error "USB device not recognised."

This means that your license has run out. The internet talking kit was not free it had a temporary license and it expired, when you try to reload it, it does not work because a file has been added to your computer that prevents it from working without a vaild license. Now you have some options, use VMware create a virtual machine that shares this hardware without loading the program, ghost the VMware machine and then save this image. Load the USB drivers and the program, use for 3-4 months until the license runs out. when the license runs out use reimage the VMware machine with the ghost image and reload the usb driver and the talking kit program. Yes its a lot of work, or you can just buy the license load it and as they say keep on getting up.
