I have had a portable iomega desktop hard drive for over a year, I backedup all my files on it and find it impossible to recover these files, it keeps saying I should use I.E. to recover files, I cant understand that, would you kindly give me an easy way to recover my files , thank you

This hard drive is faulty and the clicking sound is known as the "click of death".
If you need to recover data from this hard disk, there are companies that can recover data from faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

Having saved files onto my iomega harddrive - how do i re instate files onto laptop

if the hard drive you saved the files to is separate to your laptop you can use a usb portable drive to copy these files to then plug the usb drive into your laptop to finish installing them by selecting the file right click to open

Blue light flashed on the portable hard drive for a couple seconds.How do I know if all files were transfered? Nothing on screen showed up? I have a HP laptop.

If your portable hard drive was set up as the "H" drive, go to My Computer (in Windows XP), or Computer (in VISTA), select your "H" drive and view your files (if there).

Do you have vista? if so you need to have administrative access to add to the hard drive.

IOMEGA eGo portable hard drive won't copy files from mac

Format your hardrive for Mac OS:
Go to Disk Utilities under the go menu in your finder. Select the external drive and click on the erase tab. Clikc erase again and it formats the drive. You can now copy files onto the drive.

Try running Scandisk on the drive. If that fails it's time to reformat the drive.
