My computer will not recognise my meade lpi camera

I purchased a brand new meade telescope from the USA several years ago but never managed to get the lpi camera to work!
I was informed that the laptop i was using was out of date as it did not recognise the camera after the software was installed on it.
I have recently purchased a new laptop with vista and i am having the same problems.
It tells me the lpi could not be found
Any ideas?

the lpi is for the most part a web cam, if it is not recognized its possible the camera is inoperative. when it is plugged in is there a red light visible on the camera above the meade logo.

This is a known problem with VISTA--- works fine in XP--

However make sure you have the latest version of Autostar Suite and Envisage from the Meade web site--

There are NO 64 bit drivers for the LPI camera-- this is all that Meade has for software for the DSI camera ---

See the Envisage software-- it will not work with the LPI which is no longer produced.

Calibrate motors and then TRAIN the drives-- this sets the gear backlash.

You should Calibrate motors every time you take it outside and Train drives at least once every year. The symptom you describe is called "rubberbanding".

Train the drives.

Model# 100501103 I need a new manual with assembley instructions. I purchasted the telescope several years ago. I now want to give it to my grandchildren but I can't find the instruction manual.

Sorry ut you will not find a manual for that small telescope. It's a reflector style telescope probably on an equatorial mount which must be polar aligned in order to be used.

Here is a Meade brand manual that is similar to your scope:

I have a 10 year old Meade LX10 with Magellan computer. Do I need a separate power supply for the declination motor?

No, just one--- this scope runs off of 12 volt DC battery like a car starter battery pack-- that has a cigarette lighter style 12 volt cable. This plugs into the power console on the telescope. You need the proper 12 volt cable which you can get from Meade and other telescope retailers--

Meade will repair this scope but you will need to send it to them-- they don't usually sell parts.

Etx cant focus

The LPI camera will HIGHLY magnify the image-- about like a 6mm -8mm eyepiece-- tiny adjustments are needed to focus. You can buy a .5 or .3 focal reducer which will widen the field of view and make it easier to focus--

On my LX90 --- it takes about 20 TURNS of the focus knob to go between the eyepiece view and the camera view!

When i turn my LX-90 8" telescope the GPS is not working.

After you RESET the telescope-- it returns to factory default settings--

1. Calibrate Motors

2. Train Drives

3. Set Time, Date, Site, and Daylight Savings Time to NO right now in USA

4. Calibrate Sensors on Polaris

5. Do an Automatic Alignment--

Here are all of Meade's manuals on line--
