Clevo d900t over he\ating shut down

Hi i have a d900t i purchased in 2005 from ajp it has already had the motherboard replaced once under warranty but now out of warranty it shuts down after 10 minutes i returned it for inspection and was advised there was a chip on the mother board that was causing the fans not to work maybe? he showed me in the long rear cover there are what look like brass cooling rods and these are attatched to the circuit board this is where the malfuntioning chip is supposed to sit he showed me other broken motherboards that had deterioated further and were scorched.as this has happened again and a friend who has the same model also, had to right off his computer as the price of repair quoted £300.00 for a new board plus labour was too high. is this a common problem with this machine and is their a reasonably priced way to repair this or have i been misinformed totally? sorry for my lack of specific knowledge on this machine as i was only with the repairman for 10 minutes, these machines are not cheap as you know i invested in this model expecting the nuts for my job of digital retouching i am freelance but have not had work for 2 months so any cheap fixes if any exist would be really helpful as i not only work from this machine at times but use it to display my portfolio.thank you tony

This model motherboard is notorious for heat issues as stated before raise on cooling pad BUT to me it sounds more like they did not use AC5 Arctic Silver correctly on the CPU heat sink....you might want to check it out and also check the video card heat sink too. Also make sure you get the latest Bios update that enables the fans to run full speed all the time using Fn+F2. And also always check all the fan covers and clean excess dust from the fan grills

Hello, My Compaq Presario 750US will

Hi,

The motherboard of your laptop might have encountered a short circuit. If you've already removed and reseated all possible removable parts and still get the same result, purchase a replacement motherboard or check if it is still under warranty.

Good luck.

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa! Since you already purchased a nwe AC adapter and still the same, theres a possibility that the problem is with the DC port on the laptop itself or the Motherboard. In that case, you will need to replaced the base cover if its the DC port or if its the MOBO, the motherboard is need to be replaced. You can contact Lenovo for that, if the system is still under warranty or you purchased an extended warranty, they will be able to send the laptop to depot for free. If the system is not under warranty anymore, the process from Lenovo is you will need to pay an $80 non refundable qoutation fee, that is for the diagnostics of their technician and for the one time shipping. You will send the laptop to their depot which is in Texas by your own expense. Once they verify the exact problem, someone will call you to provide you the information on how much is the total cost, but the $80 that you initially paid will be deducted from the final charge. The phone no for Lenovo is 1-877-453-6686,press option 2 on all the voice prompts.

Hope this information will help. Thank you for using FixYa!

I have a laptop (Dell Vostro 1000) which is not worked now due to motherboard problem. I want to replace motherboard of laptop. How much it cost for a new motherboard & How much it costs for second...

I would check Ebay.com or Amazon.com for prices of used motherboards. I wouldn't use a new one unless it was cost competitive with the used.

Good luck on this repair.

Unit will not power up , shuts down

Possibly a broken battery. Some laptops actually need some charge in the battery, even when on the mains power.
Know anyone else with the same computer?

My laptop won't stay on unless its plugged in all the time and I purchesed a replacement battery but that still didn't work, it has to be plugged in at all times, as soon as it gets unplugged it shuts off.

If you have already purchased a replacement battery but still having trouble with your computer turning off this means that there is a problem with the motherboard charging circuit.

If you are still under warranty I would recommend contacting Dell so they can send you a replacement motherboard for your notebook.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions

  1. boss every electronic product comes with warrenty and customers buy them after agrement with the conditions. so lawsuit is available in case the company doesnt solve your problem even if your product is in warrenty period. so surely you can approach consumers court thats available in every nation.
  2. secondly why dont you go for extension of the warrenty period. eg in case of HP its hardly $120 for another 2 years in India for details check out for details in the near by outlets in your area of location. cheers!!
