Make sure you have the sound card set as your default by going to the control panel, clicking on sound and audio devices, and in the new window, set your sound card as your default so that you can hear audio.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my knowledge, the support for "Smart Audio" has been removed for the XP version. The driver for a Conexant High Definition Audio Chip is sp33543.exe (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33543.exe).

Additionally, it is required that the "Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio," SP32646 (or later) be installed on prior to the the sp33543.exe on the notebook. (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32501-33000/sp32646.exe)

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I have compaq cq-60-415sl laptop. i have on it

The audio on the cq60 laptops uses Microsoft's Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) bus. Make sure the UAA bus driver is installed correctly by following the 9 steps under "How do I get UAA drivers?" on HP/Compaq's UAA support page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00765866&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en
(Ignore the first paragraph about Realtek drivers, since your computer has the Conexant hardware.)

After UAA is working correctly, you can install the Conexant audio driver.

Some users have been able to get the driver through Windows Update- click Custom, then look for the Hardware, Optional section in the lefthand pane.

Otherwise, HP/Compaq's SoftPAQ # sp35682 seems to be the latest Conexant high-definition driver for XP:

Cannot find media device driver

Your Notebook is installed with High Definition audio card which XP cannot recognize by default. Installing Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) will allow XP to recognize High Definition audio cards.

Download the Microsoft UAA drivers for Windows XP form the link:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33867.exe

Restart the Notebook after the UAA Drivers are installed.

Now, download Conexant High Definition Audio Drivers for your Notebook for XP :

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34386.exe

You should be able to install the Audio Drivers without any issues.
