Magenta failure

Despite lots of auto head cleaning, also using different cartridges, (Phoenix type) the magenta colour fails to come right. all other colours are perfect on test print but the magenta is almost not there or at best a few magenta lines, sometimes up to half the square if I'm lucky.
Hope someone can suggest something. I wondered if it could be a blockage between the cartridge and the paper?
