Acer eRecovery management Restore system to factor default but I don't know the password

Locate and Unhide Hidden Rescue Partition
  • 1 Access the Diskpart command prompt. Acer stores custom eRecovery passwords on your computer in PQService, a hidden rescue partition. Locating this partition requires accessing the Diskpart utility from the command prompt. Diskpart allows you to run a scan on your hard drive and bring up hidden partitions. To access Diskpart, go to Start and type "cmd" in the search bar to bring up the black command prompt box, and then type "diskpart" at the prompt to switch to a Diskpart prompt. Depending on your computer, a new command prompt may open with the Diskpart prompt.
  • 2 Scan your computer configuration. At the Diskpart prompt, type "rescan" to run a system configuration check. When the scan finishes, you will receive a message informing you the scan is complete. At the command prompt, type "list disks" to bring up available disks and then type "select disk 0."
  • 3 Locate the hidden partition. At the command prompt, type "list partition" to view a list of partitions on your disk. Locate the partition with no name and a size of approximately 10GB. At the command prompt, type "select partition (number)."
  • 4 Determine the partition type and unhide the partition. The hidden PQService partition will be either a type 27 or a type 12 partition. If the partition is type 27, unhide it by typing "set id=07 override," and if a type 12, then unhide it by typing "set id=0B" at the command prompt.
  • 5 View the PQService partition. Return to the disk containing PQService by typing "select disk 0" at the command prompt, and then type "list volume" to view the contents of the disk. PQService will be visible in the list, preceded by a number. Type "select volume (number)" and then assign PQService a new drive letter so you will be able to open and view it from your computer interface window. At the command prompt, type "assign letter=f."
Reset eRecovery Password
  • 1 Open PQService. Navigate to the drive containing PQService. Find the file "aimdrs.dat." Right-click on the file and select "Open with" and then "Textpad," "Notepad" or another text editor you prefer.
  • 2 Open the file and find the password. Open the file with your text editor and locate the eRecovery password. Look for a line that reads, "Password=password name," "Hint=the password hint." Write down the password and close the file.
  • 3 Open eRecovery using the recovered password and follow the instructions to create a new password.

Uninstall ubuntu

This can be done by inserting your Ubuntu OS disc and choosing uninstall or go to tools in Ubuntu and choose uninstall, if you have Windows OS still installed. If not insert your new OS disc and install over Ubuntu.

How to acer restore 5742z with PQService with reformatted drive

The eRecovery restore partitions only work in Windows if both are intact. Otherwise you need a disc. I would say you have 2 options, working with ACER or doing a non OEM setup with a Windows installation disc.

A free legal Windows image can be downloaded. Check the MS Product Key sticker for what version your system came with. You will have to use your key. IT MUST BE THE SAME VERSION.

Windows
http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river/ This is SP1, but look for the links if you need an image without it. Again this is Product Key specific.

I don't work with any laptops, but I am a bit of a generalist when it comes to IT.

How do i upgrade the OS of eee PC 900A to a netbook ubuntu 9.10?

download the image of ubuntu put it on a stick here you have two option uninstal the old OS or update if you want to update:
To upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 on a desktop system, press Alt+F2 and type in "update-manager -d" (without the quotes) into the command box. Update Manager should open up and tell you: New distribution release '9.10' is available. Click Upgrade and follow the on-screen instructions.

To upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 on a server system: install the update-manager-core package if it is not already installed; edit /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades and set Prompt=normal; launch the upgrade tool with the command sudo do-release-upgrade; and follow the on-screen instructions.more info on:http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/karmic/alpha1

None of my usb ports are working correctly. Whenever I plug a device in I get an error that reads usb device not recognized. My current operating system is Windows Vista Black. This is an upgrade from...

If it's a software "driver" issue...
Disconnect all USB devices.
Find your way to the "Device Manager" and uninstall all USB Controllers and Hubs.
Before you close the Device Manager the system may begin re-installing the drivers automatically.
Even so...
Do a restart and this will force the system to load a clean copy of the drivers from the root Cab files.
Reconnect one USB device at a time amd wait for the system to recognize it and install the proper drivers.
If this doesn't work it's likely a hardware problem

My webcam trouble

Hi

Most software problems are solved by uninstalling the product, rebooting and reinstalling. if the cam is built in the you can't unplug it. if its not then unplug before you install software.

If your system errors out when uninstalling then you have to install it first again and repair if you get the option, then must uninstall. the software should be removed then. reboot and reinstall. the problem should resolve itsself.

if not check out my other solution to clearing/checking your system for malware or viruses first.

if you have installed vista and change it to xp, you should first delete or reformat your current OS (Operating System) which I believe is the ur vista.

formatting OS:

-insert your xp disk then press F8
-click format or delete files ( i don't know the exact message that will appear on the screen)
-then install windows XP (just follow the instruction that you will see on the screen)

hope this would help you solve your problem..

thanks.. :)

D2d recovery

Send me an e-mail and I will send you the fix! If you can't downloadload it from the below link. I had the same problem. The mbr was replaced, you have to add RTMBR.BIN to the MBR and it will work again. As long as you can get on your desktop and run this bat file you will repair the D2D again. Took me an hour to learn what was wrong, It works 100% though.

I have the Aspire 5610Z with the 2GB 533 mhz memory Stock.
