Question about Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500 GB SATA Hard Drive

1 Answer

I have a barracuda 7200.7 80 Gbytes. The dirve spins but stopped booting. Started making clicking noises. I smacked it a bit a few times. Now, the system doesn't recognize the drive in BIOS at all. I opened the drive to look inside. It still spins ok. The arm jumps every couple of seconds from center to 3/4 outwards making a clicking sound, and a scratching sounds. This lasts for a couple of minutes before the drive motor powers down and the spinning stops. I want to save the data if possible. I Replaced the circuit board from a working HD of same model / specs, but no use. I have about 70 GB data on it which is from the last 18 years.

This hard drive is toast and sadly you are half the reason as you never, ever ever open or hit a hard drive.  There are data recovery firms however, they are very expensive.

The Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500 GB SATA Hard Drive External falled and now is not more recognized by my pc Win XP

Hello

OK, you need to let me know if the drive spins up, you should be able to hear it. Also, you need to have a listen if the drive makes a clicking noise.

Please be so kind tom let me know.

If the drive makes a clicking noise the drive is done, you will need to take it to a recovery institution to recover the data.

If the drive does not spin up, the circuit board or the power cable might be broken.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea

Media test failure; check cable

it seems like a hard drive failure or the hard dirve not seated well. I'm assuming this caz you cannot boot up. Try reseating the hard drive and try again, If still not working, try and listen for any clicking noise from the hard dirve.

Also any other ways that might help would be great to know, heres what i'm talking about! "Fixing The Drive NOTE: Commands for you to type are in red boldface. Pay attention to upper & lower case - it is important. Turn on power to the RS232-to-TTL adapter and the hard drive. After a few seconds, Press CTRL+z. You should then see a prompt like this: F3 T> If not, swap TX & RX wires. Access Level 2 (type /2): F3 T>/2 (enter) F3 2> Then spin down the (disconnected) motor: F3 2>Z (enter) Spin Down Complete Elapsed Time 0.147 msecs F3 2> Very carefully, remove the cardstock that you placed between the PCB and the drive head contacts. Carefully replace and tighten the 3 loose screws. I suggest using a small piece of masking tape to help you hold the screws while you put them back in place.
