Hoover HDV6UK keeps tripping circuit breaker

Hello, my wife's Hoover HDV6UK keeps tripping the garage circuit breaker after 10-20 mins of running. The motor sounds like it is turning either direction ok and we are getting heat out of the vents ok.
I have replaced the element, but the new one tripped after 10 mins with a hell of a bang. Visible inspection does show the element to be ok with no damage. I double-checked the element wiring and it is ok.
Any ideas? My wife is now nagging for a newer dryer.. :(

You could have a loose connection in your outlet receptacle that heats up as power flows thru it.

There are only 2 things that it could be both are heat related:
THe thermostat and thermal limiter OR the heating element. We can not rule out the motor though. Then you can get into the control boards. Maybe it is time.

SOURCE: Hoover Condensing dryer malfunction

Hi Mike,

The motor probably has experienced locked rotor current and fried the windings. Of course the capacitor could have shorted. If you can find it, look at the capacitor and if the can looks like it's lid is swollen or pooched out, then go for replacing the Capacitor. If you remove the motor and smell the case and it smells burned, you motor is shot. It does not have to lock down to be bad. The windings do not rotate in an AC motor.

ok I assume from what you are say that the circuit breaker in the consumer unit (fuse box) trips it could be that the circuit breaker is beginning to fail (they can go weak after prolonged use) and will tend to be a problem on high load appliances the water heater will take around 12.4 amps as will the dryer heater get the circuit breaker changed

Keeps tripping breaker on 30amp service

Sounds like you may have a weak breaker or under size conductors. For 30A you need at least 10 awg conductor. Did this help?

I have the 919.167320 and it keeps tripping the breaker on start up. It must have tripped it 10 times last night. I have it on a 20 Amp breaker. If I cut the switch off and let the tank get down to 40 lbs...

There is a voltage drop, excessive voltage drop in the circuit.
Anything else on that circuit?
Is the circuit wire size #12 awg thru the complete circuit to the outlet?
Any extension cords being used?
Voltage drop is found in high amperage loads. A motor needs about six times the motors rated full load amps value. Drops found in long runs of wire, in loose connections, in smaller Gage wire than needed.
The power outlet in the garage for the compressor may need the next size wire, #10 AWG. Try using a circuit breaker rated for air conditioning use, they have a trip delay.

That's why you use easy off. LOL
If you have run it twice then any moisture should be gone, besides if it was moisture it should trip quick, sounds like a bad element causing the trip. I have never seen a breaker go bad, but they can.

Unit comes on and runs for 5 minutes, the circuit trips off

30 is the correct size breaker for this unit. It sounds like there is a grounding issue going on in the system. Or off of the Thermostat. Something is grounding out causing the switch to trip. Are you running #10 wire to breaker and the unit? If not you will need to increase your wire size

Circuit Breaker

you have 2 circuits that feed the garage , not a problem , the one that you stated tripped often is the one we are concerned with . now do you remember which one that was , if so we need to start there . the first thing to determine is the load on the circuit large enough to to justify tripping of the breaker , breakers tripping is not always an indication of a problem it simply means it is doing its job sometimes . To determine the load turn on all the devices normally on in the garage and get or borrow a amp probe a wrap around is the easiest to use open the breaker panel that feeds the garage and wrap the amp probe around the wire leaving the panel that feeds the circuit to the garage that is the one that trips see if the load is close to the rating on the breaker , if it is then the breaker is doing its job and the only solution it to split the load . now if the load needs to be split then don't forget you said you had two circuits feeding the garage so you might be able to divide the load more evenly between the two you already have before you have to run additional circuits , tripping of breakers is not always a bab thing in most cases in my 40 years of being an electrician it is a case of them doing there job and the load needs to be more evenly divided if this does not help let me know and we will dig deeper

Kenmore Elite keeps tripping circuit breaker and small flash

Hello jaybebo84,
May be coincidental that you had a short circuit ocurr in the back panel after your wife dusted but the problem is that you now have a short circuit which will trip the breaker. If you can unplug it and slide it out to gain access to the back panel, remove the cover and look for carbon or flash burn on some of the components in that area. Usually when you get an arc like that the evidence of the component is pretty easy to identify. You may see some carbon or equivalent on a component which once located, could simply be removed and replaced. Sears usually has exploded views drawings of all their appliances and you may be able to get a copy from the store service area. Good Luck..

Rick
