Question about HP Compaq nx9010
I had a similar problem with one of my laptops, there is a ribbon cable that connections the LCD screen to the board inside the laptop case that gets a little loose. In my case it was a easy fix because the button panel on my laptop popped right out and I could take the end of a pencil and push the connector back down into the socket; not all laptops make it that easy for you. If you laptop is still under warranty I would make HP fix it; there is also a chance the LCD screen could be burning out.
If you're not squeamish about fixing it yourself my recommendation is do the work at your own risk. The only hard thing about taking apart a laptop is putting the each screw back in the original location; many laptops have more than 5 different sized screws holding it together. Furthermore, you don't need to dismantle the whole thing; worst case there are 2 - 4 screws that hold in the keyboard and 2 - 3 screws holding in the forward button panel. Near each screw hole is an indicator what it is for; on my laptop it shows the letter "K" to represent the keyboard screw holes. I'd usually stay away from taking out the screws from the 4 corners of the laptop...
If your keyboard has a trackball there is a mini ribbon that is fragile connected underneath, so after removing the keyboard screws be careful not to pull farther then the slack allows.
If you're lucky you won't have to monkey with any of this and the forward button panel will just pop out. Laptop designers are making it easier to "replace" laptop screens and keyboards because it is a common problem. I'm positive if you're able to secure that connector you won't have that "frosting" effect you see now.
