Re: hp deskjet 1280
Seems like the pick up roller and seperation pad are dirty or worn.try cleaning them with nail polish remover. the roller is located at the bottom of the printer where the leading edge of the paper is the seperation pad sits under the pick up roller.

the gears of the printer r worn out and they have hanve lost their allignment settings so this problem.either replace the gears.or the other solution.do not insert the paper in the tray ,keep it little bit outside and hold the end of the paper in hand when you will give a printout the printer will make a noise of picking the paper at that time just push the paper inside and then it will print properly.
there is nothing wrong with the roller becoz it is picking up the single seet what you can do is you put bunch of paper while you placing the paper sheet dont put deep inside just insert like when feel resist leave it. give the print command it will automatcally pick up sheet one by one.
