We have one base and 3 handsets. Two of the handsets have developed the same problem,at about the same time! When the phone rings or you want to place a call, pressing either line button does nothing. It won't activiate a line and you can not call or talk. There is no physical damage and the units are clean. We have tried unplugging the batteries and then reinstalling power to the units hoping to reset some electronic function but this doesn't work.

I had this happen suddenly on 2 out of 3 handsets with a DS6151 base and DS6101 handsets. Well, what happened is there was no dial tone on either of the 2 handsets on either of the 2 lines and a message appeared on the display "Unable to Call Try Again" after some delay, if Line1 or Line2 button was pressed.
Oddly, the 2 that did not work were the ones normally on "extension" chargers and the 1 that did work was the one on the base unit. That caused me to suspect the base unit .. which it still may have been but the solution was NOT. And, also odd, the handsets seemed to still be synched with the base unit in many respects.
Cycling the power on the base unit did nothing.
These are fairly new units and battery life is generally much longer in my experience.
- Remove the battery from the handset that doesn't work properly.
- Re-install the same battery.
Whatever was wrong, this reset it and the handsets started working again.
make sure your wiring that connects lines from dmarc into the unit is consistant. Line1 must be line1 on all phones, line2 must be line2 etc.
After line appearance verified follow instructions in the manual and everything should work. If it doesnt contact manufacturer for assistance
Most of the Cordless 2 line phone BASE UNITS have the connections on the back for line1/line2 or seperate line 1 and line 2 connection. If you have the type of phone with the line1/line2 jack you have to be sure that both lines are on the same wall jack, otherwise make sure the phone you purchase has seperate line jacks and you will have two phone cords going to the base unit.
A three Prong contains L1 (Line1), L2 (Line2) and N (Neutral). A four prong will contain L1 (Line1), L2 (Line2), N (Neutral) and G (Ground) typically a green wire. Connect the three wires as normal, connect the green wire to the screw provided on the cabinet.
Same manual as lethean provided on a similar post but Page 24 if the previously used Base is Unavailable and your phone shows "Deregistration" in the Menu.
Base Unavailable (Handset Only)
To clear the base registration data in the handset, please follow these steps:
Press and hold and [#] for more than 5 seconds. Select the BASE UNAVAILABLE submenu.
BASE UNAVAILABLE appears. Move the cursor to select YES, and then press the OK soft key.
ARE YOU SURE? appears. Move the cursor to select YES. Press the OK soft key.
Press the 'DVD' button then 'Input' button at the top of the remote until 'Line1' or 'Line2' input is selected. I messed with this for quite a while until I finally looked at Sony's web site which states this.
