I have windows xp.
just recently after hotmail change to the new platform I have not been able to open any of my messages in my inbox. I do get to the inbox page. I see I have new and old messages but when i try to select a message to read, clicking does nothing. I can't change folders like going to sent items, or junk mail. and some of the bottons are clickable but most of the page (that is supposed to be clickable) does not respond or give any sound feedback when it's clicked on.

Re: I can't open messages in hotmail
I had the same problem not a long ago..I have IE7. if you don't make sure you upgrade to Ie7 at least as it should.
things you need to try: (try in this order and test after trying one at a time)
1. clear cookies, temporary internet files, browsing history
2. update java 3. reset internet zone security to defaults 4. disable filter phishing and test. 5. disable pop up filter 6. tried to add following sites to trusted sites: https://*.msn.com *.hotmail.co, *.live.com *.passport.com 7.disable add-ons you may not need.
8. check you antivirus!! and scan your computer.
9. switch to firefox and if it works in firefox.. you may need to reinstall ie.

Windows Live Mail is the desktop email application of Office Live, introduced with Windows 7. Windows Live Mail replaces Outlook Express in Windows XP and Windows Mail in Windows Vista. You can use Windows Live Mail to access most free email accounts, such as Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo Mail, as well as those offered by Internet service providers. You can also set up your IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) account to use Windows Live Mail.
Open the Office Live email application. Click "Start," select "Programs" or "All Programs" and select "Windows Live Mail" from the "Windows Live Folder." Go to the "Tools" menu and select "Accounts" to open the "Accounts" dialog box. If you do not see thetoolbar, press the "Alt" key to display it. Click the "Add" button, select "Email Account" and click "Next." Type in the complete IMAP email address, such as "firstname.lastname@example.org" into the "Email Address." Enter the password for that account in the "Password" box. Enter the name you want displayed to email recipients in the "Display Name" box. Select the "Manually Configure Server Settings for Email" check box and click "Next." Select "IMAP" in the "My Incoming Mail Server Is" list. Enter "imap.ispname.com" into the "Incoming Server" box, replacing "ispname" with the name of your email provider. Type "smtp.ispname.com" into the "Outgoing Server" box, replacing "ispname" with the name of your email provider. Click "Next" and then click "Finish." Hope this helps.
Check you username and password. Hotmail passwords are case sensitive, so something as simple as having your caps lock on can keep you from accessing your account. Double check to be sure you are typing both your username and password exactly how you created them. Reset your password. If you haven't logged into your Hotmail in some time and suspect you might be using the wrong password, click the "Forgot Your Password?" link on the Hotmail log-in page. On the next screen, follow the prompts to enter your email address and the given security verification code. Click "continue" and on the next screen, select the option that allows you to answer your pre-set security question. This is a question you supplied when you set up your Hotmail account. After correctly answering the question, you will be prompted to reset your password. Clear your browser history and temporary Internet folders if you are continually getting a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" message when you log in. The exact procedure for doing this depends on your operating system and browser. If you continue to get see this message, it could indicate a problem with the Hotmail server. Check the status of the network on a site like Down Right Now that reports server problems on popular sites. Submit a support request on the Windows Live page. On the Windows Live site, select "Hotmail" under "Standard Services." A search screen will open that will allow you to check out a variety of Hotmail related support topics. At the bottom of that screen, choose "get more help" and then "support." A support form will open for you to complete and submit to the Hotmail team. You will receive an answer within 24 hours. Note that you will need a second email account that you can access so that the Hotmail support staff can send you your answer. also you might try this link http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows/outlook/account-temporarily-blocked hope this helps
