Question about ViewSonic PJ550 Multimedia Projector

Viewsonic PJ550 lamp

The lamp on my projector recently went out. Heard a pop and looked at the lamp and it had a lot of broken glass inside the bulb itself. Got a replacement lamp installed and it will not light. The projector power LED blinks green for a minute or so and then cooling fan(s) sound like the speed up slightly. After this the the lamp LED blinks red and the power LED turns solid red. I checked the voltage going to the lamp during this and never got anything. I pulled the lamp and checked with an ohm meter and it showed as being open. Does this sound like a bad replacement lamp or something with the projector?

Problem 1) The projector should put out a burst of 7000-15000 volts to start the lamp, and then immediately drop down to 60-100 vlts to keep the lamp lit. It sounds like the bulb blowing took out your ballast, or the ballast going out took the bulb (uncontrolled current = overheated bulb = boom)

Problem 2) Thats not a problem at all. HID lighting uses an arc to create light, just like welding creates light. Since it uses an arc, and not the heating of metal, there is no filament to test the resistance of. All the bulb is, is a special mixture of gasses and two very durable electrodes, with a gap in between.

I turn my projector on and it went back off. It will not come back on. What should I do.

Power retulator board inside your projector is faulty. There are voltage regulators on that board and a protection fuse. The projector service work is actually very complicated, and is a very skilled work. To open the projector itsef. you need special tools. So it will be best for you to get it repaired by any experienced service technician of by the authorised service center for Viewsonic at your town. OK.

PT-AX200U Bulb replaced 4 months ago Was on about

carefully take the lamp cover off, and see if there is any glass pieces inside. if all looks Ok, then unscrew the lamp housing and remove the lamp. check for any damage. be careful not to damage the lamp or bump it. These lamps generally contain mercury vapour, so try not to inhale anything if it's broken.

How do I adjust lamp brightnesss for a Viewsonic PJ550 LCD projector?

may be ur projector lamps reflector may be faulty. when it comes to the end of its life. the coting inside th reflector will get bubbled and it will peeled of. that's why the light is very low. u can't increase the brightness of lamp. because it is connected to a well regulated power supply. and the supply voltage is as per the specifications of the lamp. you can adjust the brightness through menu. for that press MENU button and selects PICTURE 1 using down arrow and then press ENTER. select BRIGHTNESS and press ENTER. using up and down arrow adjust the brightness. if still not get the desired brightness lamp should replaced.

Projecter went bang, is it bulb or fuse.

Hello. First, unplug the projector. Next, obtain some paper towels or newspaper and make a suitable work surface on a table. Then, open the lamp door and *being very careful here*, remove the lamp. Immediately check to see if the lamp has indeed blown--usually the bulb portion of the lamp pops into pieces but sometimes it breaks the cone shaped reflector. Next, flip the projector right-side up and shake out any broken glass fragments--hence the need for a disposable surface! Then, using a flashlight, CAREFULLY inspect the area in the lamp compartment where the lamp is aimed at to see whether the heat-absorbing glass or glass filters have been damaged by shrapnel at all. (When a lamp explodes, that much force is generated!) If any glass panels are cracked or pock-marked at all, the projector MUST BE REPAIRED before use. These glass panels can, of themselves, violently shatter due to the extreme heat from the lamp.
If no damage in the compartment has occurred, gently blow out any tiny glass fragments with canned air. Put in a spare lamp and see if the projector will power up--chances are it won't. There is an internal fuse normally located very near the power plug socket. It is usually a Buss glass fuse, 5-7 amps rated, but if you haven't worked on projectors before, I wouldn't suggest removing the top cover to get at it...send the unit off to be repaired...When a lamp blows like that, a lot of times it takes out the power supply section and/or the circuit that powers the lamp (ballast). If glass panels are damaged, the "optical engine" (internal framework that houses all the mirrors, lenses, and filters) must be replaced--that is very expensive--some companies are able to fix the optics without replacing the whole engine. Hope I helped you.---Rick

I heard a pop and now the projector only shows black and white.

The color wheel has failed in youtr projector. There are 4 pieces of glass in the color wheel which fit togeter in a "pie" formation and they are red, blue, yellow & clear. This wheel is spun by a motor. The glass is glued to the motor's hub, and, when it fails the glass segments are thown off the hub. This gives you a B&W picture because all of the light is allowed to shine through the optics all of the time. Replace the color wheel with Toshiba part no: 23125963. It will be about $65. No soldering is involved, just use care with the ribbon cable to the motor. You will need a no. 2 phillips screwdriver and a set of jeweles screwdrivers to do this.

Read replace lamp then afew weeks later heard pop noise and now black screen

Two things in your TV can make that popping sound. One is the bulb of course and the other is a capacitor. Have you pulled out the bulb to inspect it? My guess is that you have broken glass in the cooling fan, which is why there is a grinding sound. Most bulbs tend to contain the glass from getting everywhere as it's only the filament inside that pops creating little diamond looking pieces inside the lens. If a surge was strong enough or if the bulb was poorly manufactured, the whole unit can explode inside spraying glass everywhere.

If the bulb looks fine, the pop must've been a capacitor on one of your circuit boards resulting in no display. Since the TV still powers on, your power supply and it's fuse appear to be fine. Check the bulb first and go from there.
