Question about Thomson Lyra PDP2842U MP3 Player

1 Answer

Buttons jammed or not working

Machine worked fine for 18 months. Suddenly, when using, kept jumping from Music to radio and after several minutes of doing this turned itself off. I can now not even turn it on. The Menu button on the side appears to be pressed in slightly, suggesting it may be stuck down (which is why it would keep going onto radio). I have taken off the cover and fiddled with buttons, but no joy. Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it? Can it be repaired? Can I get my music files off it if necessary, even though it will not switch on? Any suggestions gratefully received.

Re: Buttons jammed or not working

I had this problem when my Lyra PDP2842U was in warranty and it was repaired. Nothing I did would get it to work. If yours is out of warranty then I suspect a official repair is out of the question cost wise and reapiring yourself looks to be a no goer. Selling on ebay as a spares or repair looks to be the only way to go (or buy another with a screen/HDD fault). Or take a look here - seem to quite a few with HDD errors who might want to sell cheap.

Mp3 touch screen

first you can format it and see if that helps.but you will lose all of your movies and music,ect... you can
back them up by copying them to your computer.if that don't work there might be something wrong with
you dying and won't a charge for long or it takes forever to charge.sometimes a dying
battery does weird things.for instance my treo kept resetting itself and i replaced the battery and it
worked fine.try formatting it first and then see if it works fine before you reload any of the music to see
if the music is makeing it act weird(the music might have a bug or virus.)if you got any more question
email me at if you got another problem besides the mp3 player

Shows songs, but doesnt play them

Have you tried holding the select (center) and menu buttons together? This will completely reset your iPod to its factory settings, whereupon you can plug it into your computer and sync your songs back.

I'd recommend restoring the firmware to the latest version as well, even if you had the most current version installed, as this will usually aid with these kinds of software-induced problems.

It won't let me play my music!

no worries. there may be a read error. if it still connects to your computer fine download all of the files, movies, mp3, mp4 etc back onto your computer. once you have done this go into the file holding all of the mp3's and set the file to show details and look for a mp3 that is the incorrect file size... in general comparison to the other files. also if the device came with software look around for a restore factory settings button or wizard, and once the device is completely clear restart it and reload the files back onto it, remove the device (safely) then switch it off and back on and then try it out again. hope things work out bro.

Maybe the battery's dead?

hi, it could be of two reasons 1. internal charging circuitary is blown,it just show as if charging but actually no current for charging is fed in to the battery. 2.Battery is totally dead and it is impossible to get it done with the low current charger inside. According to my opinion the first one is more common since the unit is kept with battery and this complaint usually happens to camcorders, and i have corrected many charger circuitary with this problem. all the best my friend sreejith
