Hi your governor spring is probably broken, it connects the throttle plate to the throttle shaft assembly. regards Phil

SOURCE: adjusting governor/throttle briggs and stratton

there should be a little screw to help adjust your idle try that..counterclockwise to add more idle, clockwise to slow idle..

1995 mercury 150 horse runs great idols great but very slow .when put in reverse quits seems like to slow idol . what screw do i turn for fast idol

Seems like your are describing a outboard motor. If so, the Boat section of Fixya may have more experts that you need. You would want to avoid turning any screws on the carburetor body. The externals on the linkage have some adjustments like throttle stops.

The linkage on boat shift mechanisms are tempermental. They usually combine 2 functions on 1 control lever. They are synchronized that when the transmission shifts from neutral to forward and neutral to reverse the idle speed is low. This keeps the gears from grinding and takes the shock out of the shifting process.

Another thing different than on a car engine is the effect of the propeller on engine rpm. You can change the "in gear"
rpm for both directions by changing prop size and/or pitch.
This also means you can over-rev the engine by having the wrong prop on the boat. There are engine rpm "stops" for the high end too, but some just rely on using the correct prop. As what you may be experiencing with a "stall" can be brought on by

A word of caution. The inboard/outboard engines can have the same problem as outboard engines. The shift levers are synchronized with a pivot system and adjusting the throttle can interfere with the shifting.

My welding machine will not idol down .Only stays in high idol. Why won't my machine idol back down when not welding? Yes I have the switch on run / idol lol 225 bobcat miller Kohler engine

Possibly the idler control circuit board. I changed out my fair share back when I worked on them. Also, check your idler solenoid. I can't remember if those pulled in to idle, or pulled in for high RPM's. May be something as simple as rust on the solenoid plunger.

Engine idoling way to high

An engine will idle too high because of : improper govenor setting, improper carb setting, intake leak, or missing carb throttle plate.

Have a 1992 toyota corolla 3 speed auto, that shakes when stopped at a stop light, and when you take off it runs fine. changed plugs cap and rotor and still does it..

Check your engine idol. It could be that your idol speed is set to low. It should probably run at between 800 and 1000 RPM. If it is not then your idol is to low.

Idol very high 3000rpm possable idol sensor

throttle positioning sensor voltage should run around 1 volt at idle. If you unplug the sensor the car should still run on the presets in the computer, this will turn on the check engine light but if the RPM's drop down to normal replace the tps.

My idol sits around 100-300 RPM

your idle should be around 750 to 850 in park or neutral
i don't know how it even runs at the rpm you listed.
your vehicle should have a tps sensor
"throttle positioning sensor" you might have to have it reset

I have a idol problem with my car. please help

Idle problem like what? too low? too high? If it is too low it could be because your air filter is way too dirty or the throttle body has a bunch of carbon built up in it around the butterfly valve and gets no air at idle. If it is too high you have a vacuum leak. air sucking in from a cracked hose or intake manifold gasket. Check all your vacuum hoses and spray carb cleaner around the intake manifold gasket while the car is running.

1992 chevy blazer idols too low when engine is cold it idols around 800 rpm but when it warms up it drops down to around 400 rpm n alittle lower when i put it in gear

The problem is in the idle air control motor. It is mounted on the throttle body with two bolts, you can pull it off and make sure it is not caked with carbon also check where it mounts on the throttle body and make sure it is not caked with carbon.

Idols high when comming to a stop wont idol down

Sounds like you have either a carb with a sticky slide. Pull air box and look down carb throats while twisting throttle (assuming the bike is not EFI)
