Question about LG RH1999H DVD Recorder/HDD Recorder
Last night something happened to my lg set top box, this morning when I went to watch tv I noticed the box was turned off, strange because it is always left on. I tried turning it on using the remote and via the power button on the front of the unit, I couldn't. I tried another power point, still nothing. Unfortunately it is 8 months out of warranty I've taken the case off and checked the fuse, it is still intact, when I plug it into power with the case of 2 lights flash on LD700 and one with no label but that is between L708 and TP723. Nothing looks charred or smells burnt, nothing looks broken or loose.

what do you mean "knocked" Yes sir it sure does sound like the power supply specificly the stand by supply? Only real way to tell if you know anything about troubleshooting solid state electronics is to get a schematic and start at the beginni9ng of the supply and work your way over to the sweep supplys. On alot of sets the horizontal has to be good for the ,main switching supply to start up but in this case if it dosent click or make any sound I supect the main supply. Good luck

I have had this same problem twice in the past 3 months. So far both times I've been able to get it back after a week or two. I'm not sure what works, but unplugging and detaching the antenna and cable and waiting a few days seems to be the key. In both instances, I unplugged it for a few days then plugged it in for a few days and repeated the processes until I eventually got the steady red led. Both times prior to the red led the led would flash red then green and make a clickiing noise for several hours before I was able to get it working again.

On a hunch, I cracked open my unit and saw that the drive was just a standard IDE DVD writer. I took mine out of my computer and tried it out. So far, it's played many discs the other drive would not play at all. It's a weird fit, but I can just keep it in there with double-face tape. At least the unit is usable now. I think these units just went out with bad drives. I don't think it's the processor because ever since replacing my drive it's been working.
