Oven digital lighted display is dim

I have a Jenn-Air electric Wall Oven with a lighted digital display. Last week I noticed that the digital display was very dim. It has gotten dimmer and now I can hardly read it. The oven and all the timers, clock, etc. work just fine, it's just the digital display is dim. Thank you.

I have the same unit with exactly the same problem

  • BrunoHa Dec 15, 2008

We have the same problem with our double oven. The display went suddenly dim and not it is getting dimmer by the day. I took this thing apart and I conculded that it is the electronic board on the back of the display unit (the top part of the 3 piece oven). I will order a new one from RepairClinic.com p/n 696652. It is a electronic board holding the segment display unit. You can easily get to this by removing the four screws on the bottom of this top part. Open the door of the top oven and look at the upper edge, you can see the four screws along that edge holding the top piece in place. The board is on the back of this part.

I have not replaced the board yet, but I am pretty sure that's what's faulty. The price is about $190 for this part. I'll get the part in about 10 days. I will post another message if I am successful!

    Hope this helps!

I am having the same problem with my Jenn-Air Conventional Oven Model IJ30400B. This is beginning to sound like a defective board with so many users experiencing the same problem.

I replaced the C3 capacitor on the circuit board and works fine. This was mentioned in a prior post and took 5 minutes and was under $5.00 for the part.

I replaced the capacitors on the DCS double-oven ... first the two larger cans, which did not help, then the two smaller cans ... and Bingo! $2.00 is parts and really easy to replace with a pencil tip soldering iron & solder ******.

We own a Jenn-Aire model W27400W oven. The display module has gradually gone dim over a period of several months prior to the end of the warranty, and the display is no longer visible. It is apparent that several Jenn-Aire oven models use the same display. Does Anyone else have the same problem, and If so, are they willing to join a class-action suit against Jenn-Aire with us?

SOURCE: Oven digital lighted display is dim

You need to replace the C3 capacitor on the control board

http://fixitnow.com/wp/2009/01/28/cheap-fix-for-a-dim-display-on-an-oven-control-panel/

You can replace only the C3 - it is 68uF / 35V and you can go to Radio Shack and get their part # 272-1028 - 100uF/35V one. It takes all but 10 minutes to re-solder the new one in place

SOURCE: Oven digital lighted display is dim

mY 27" WALL jENN air blows cold air out the vents when on cleaning cycle. The red buttons aren't lighted. The door locks, otherwise it bakes fine. I wonder if it is really cleaning?

My clock and temperature display is dim

Hi, this will happen over a period of time and its just heat related. the control panel isn't insulated properly and , there has been a larger than normal transfer of heat to the inside of the control panel where the circuits are housed.

If this is a problem, i recommend replacing the control board. it will fix the dim issue.

Display on my Jenn-Air electric wall oven is very dim

douglas9101,
I had the same problem and found the solution on-line.
Replace the C3 capacitor on the dispaly module. (100 UF, 35 volt, high temperature)
The local Jenn Air dealer wanted $211 for a new display module.
I purchased a Cap from a local electronics supply store for 79cents.
The only problem is that you need to have a soldering pencil/iron, a solder ******/wick and a small amount of solder.

Steps I had to take on my oven:
- Flip the AC breaker supplying the oven to off to be save
- remove 3 screws on top and 4 on the bottom of the display panel
- gently pull out the display panel and unplug the 2 cables to the display
- unclip the ribbon cable to the display module
- unclip the module itself by pushing on the 2 black tabs
- locate C3
- unsolder C3 and replace with new Cap- keeping the polarity strip the same as theh old Cap
- reasemble in reverse order.

It took me all of 20 minutes. It may sound difficult but is very easy if you have the tools
Good Luck
K
