I had the same issue this morning so my apologies for the delay in answering you. After numerous delays and frustrations in being unable to "update" my remote i did the following. First, remove all batteries and disconnect remote from the USB cable. Check ALL buttons to ensure that none are stuck in the down position. I found that my SELECT/OK button was stuck in the "on" position. Continue to check all buttons to make sure all test fine. After doing this hold down the "Off" button while connecting the USB cable, still no batteries in the unit at this time. Hold the "Off" button down for at least 10 seconds or until the units Testing is completed. If the Harmony remote software is up, perform the Update Remote step still sans batteries. After it completes it may perform a self test again (mine did) and after it completes then insert the batteries back into the unit. Hope this helps.

What is "Safe Mode?and how do I get this off my remote? It is completely not working. The Activities button is light up and it simply says Harmony Safe Mode.

1. Remove the batteries. While holding the 2 button down, connect the USB cable. The remote will boot into normal mode.

2. Update the firmware. Update the configuration. If you are unsure of how to do this, please see below.
- Upgrading/Reapplying the firmware on your Harmony Remote
- http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=10747

3. There could be a stuck button on the remote causing the symptom. Remove the batteries from the remote. Push in, and massage each button ensuring it is not stuck down. Replace the batteries and Update the firmware. Update the configuration (update the remote).

4. Remove the batteries from the remote. Manually place the remote into `Safe Mode` by holding off and plug in the USB. Upgrade the firmware in the remote. Update the configuration (Update your Harmony remote).

Harmony 550 in safe mode

Hi There,
To get out of safe mode, do a firmware update from your PC. This will install the latest firmware and your configuration. Safe mode is a bootstrap designed to recover from firmware corruption issues so about the only thing it knows how to do is reload firmware.
However, if the remote fails to communicate with the PC when it is stuck in Safe Mode, please try the following.

1. Remove the batteries from the remote & check for any stuck buttons especially the Power button that may be causing the remote to stay in this state.
2. If it still will not apply firmware to get out of safe mode, then still without batteries hold down the #2 button while plugging into USB, and it should exit Safe Mode, and say something similar to 'Firmware Upgrade Success'. Even though it says this, still perform the Firmware upgrade since it was stuck in Safe Mode to begin with.

Safe mode!

I can help you with your Harmony One Remote Control.

Replacing the firmware in your Harmony One is the way to get it out of Safe Mode.

To help you make sure the firmware update is successful:

  1. May I suggest you make sure you are running the latest Harmony Setup Software (V 7.7.0).
  2. Replace your remote's batteries with fresh ones. It is important the remote has sufficient, unvarying power when updating firmware.
I hope that helps.
