Question about HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook

1 Answer

Laggy computer? Hi i have a problem with my computer. It is about 2 years old now and it was working perfectly fine last year and i was able to play high graphic games(WoW) without any problems. When i could play World of Warcraft, it was virtually lagless and a game like dota and red alert was unaffected. I have deleted WoW now in hopes of solving the problem. However, recently it has begun to slow down or lag and now i often have spikes and disconnects when i join a network to play the game. Another problem is the loading time. For example, it takes about 1 minute to load an internet page and a game(DOTA) and red alert and when i quit game, it takes 5 minutes to load back to the original screen. How can i solve this?

Erm thx alot electech1. The instructions were really helpful. I actually did it one step further. My com is 1268x720 and my game was 1024x768 initially. So i changed the game to suit my com and it worked much better!

But there is still one more problem. My com lags periodically and then it freezes and after that its chaos. For example, my com lags for 5 seconds and after that in the next 1 second it tries to catch up for the time lost and eveyrthing speeds up...then because of that "fast forward" my com lags again. However, 1 min later it is fine again. Then about 5 minutes later the whole process repeats itself. I hope u understand this problem?

  • realmadridro Nov 27, 2008

erm ok i did what u said. I started my com and the CPU usage was about 8-10% and when i started the game it jumped to a constant 47-60%. Every few minutes i would alt-tab to check and i found a few instances when the CPU usuage reached 100%. I realized that a few actually corresponded to the lag spikes in the game. The Mem usage of the game was about 138,000K to 145,000K. Any solution? There were lots of processes almost 42 in total. If this could be solved its a fixya! =p

Have you deleted history , cookies , temporary internet pages? also when is the last time you defraged the computer?
also you can try : right click on c:/ in my computer and click properties then disk clean up and it will calculate , when the next window pops up it will show you the description of files to delete and you can click on the more options tab to also remove old restore points or windows components ( not recomended )
let me know if that works or if we need to see if you have a virus that is causing problems

the game may take most of your processor speed and then there are windows processesand or updates that might be trying to run also

how much processing speed do you have and how much is being taken up and by what programs

to see right click on the task bar and click properties , this will let you see how much processing is going on and by what services

let me know what you got

  • jason Nov 27, 2008

    thanks for rating

but that rating hurts our rating as only a fixya helps

  • jason Nov 27, 2008

sorry i meant the task manager , right click on task bar and click task manager to see the processes and how much processing speed is being taken up

  • jason Nov 27, 2008

ok then the processes that are running may be for a program that you have like messenger , virus protection dowloading new updates and windows services , or another program that would be open on the task bar near the clock

if you still suspect that something should not be running and you want to check your computer, you can dowload HIJACK THIS to get a report of what is running and other info plus the option to remove the file or process , but be aware and read this before you remove anything with the software, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HijackThis

here is a link to download it http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/...

  • jason Nov 27, 2008

if you can post the results I"ll have a look and tell you what I suspect , if any are suspicious

  • jason Nov 27, 2008

well it looks good , so I don't see anything to worry about or that you should fix, so the only thing that would be taking processing speed is the blue tooth that you could right click on the task bar tray and exit it while not in use , also windows messenger can be exited out of while not in use , also make sure winzip is not open in the tray and exit out of that , you can also go in to properties of programs that start when windows starts up and set them to not start at start up of windows which would also limit the proceessing usage

so the game takes alot of processing itself and will need all the processor it can use exspecially when alot of info processing is required

your computer will only allow so much info to be processed and each program needs so much processor speed to process , so when there is to much being processed then you will see a pause durring those times of to much process

  • jason Nov 27, 2008

oh , this one does look suspicious and usless

I would get rid of it and then check again later to see if it comes back

Can you upgrade cpu in dell 15 i5559-4682slv to i7 ?

It is almost impossible to upgrade proprietary makes like Dell and HP. The are big enough to have motherboards made for them manufactured on price point. This means that they are not built with upgrade in mind. Also the cases are made to fit their motherboard and theirs only.

Go to a computer builder and get a good case, buy a good quality motherboard and equip it with what you can afford. In two years you can upgrade as processors have moved on. Two years after that, you can swap out the motherboard, processor and memory.

Are 2002 Aztec computers compatible

I am assuming you are discussing the 2002 Pontiac Aztec, the early crossover with the rather distinctive look. I would assume that since they were made by the same manufacturer and they used the same parts that their computers should be compatible. I can't say so for certain as you haven't provided much information, but, unless one of the Aztec owner swapped out the original computer and replaced it with an updated device, the computers should be compatible.

If you are thinking of trying to swap computer chips, I would advise you to wait and let a professional do it at an independent shop. The reason I suggest this is simple, unless you know how to access the computer chip correctly, you risk accidentally ruining it. If you handle the replacement chip incorrectly it is entirely possible that for a stray static charge to ruin the chip by blowing out a trace. Also, if you damaged the socket from which the original chip was removed then it is possible that you will not be able to reinsert the new device without bending any leads on the bottom. If the leads are damaged, then the new computer won't work.

Even if the new computer chip and the original chip were already installed in installable cases (the way most desktop computer chips are installed), it is possible that when you removed the computer, you might have damaged the receiving socket which means that when you go to insert the new computer carrier it won't work correctly because a few or many of the pins on the bottom of the board won't sit correctly.

Burning movies on the computer , playback fine on two computeers , will not play on ONN portable player used DVD-R

Burning dvd\'s is always a crapshoot when you have multiple machines. Computer drives are more tolerant on playback - the problem lies with your other, independent playback units. That is why in your main viewing area it is important that you have a few units so that if disk does not play in one machine, it will play on another. Has to do with the individual differences and calibrations of the machines involved. Store bought dvd\'s have less problems because their laser reflectivity is always higher than disks you burn, and therefore, easier to read properly. Price of the unit has no reflection on ability to properly read the disk. Sometimes and often, a cheaper machine will work better with copies - you never know.

Generally, connecting phones via bluetooth to a laptop just allows for file transfer between the two devices. It is not to input sound from the phone through the speakers of the laptop. You would need a bluetooth audio device for that such as bluetooth speakers or headphones

How do I start bluetooth on the qosmio g25-av13?

Try the ff:

1. Are you also using a wireless internet? If you are and you cannot also connect on wireless, make sure that the wireless is enabled on your laptop. On the left side of the laptop there is a on/off switch push the switch to on. (beside the usb port).

2. if it is already on, make sure that the bluetooth is enabled also, you can check it on control panel, system, hardware, device manager, bluetooth, right click on bluetooth driver, if you see enable bluetooth click on it, if you see"disable bluetooth" that means it is already enabled.

3. If the above is already configured, lastly, look for the bluetooth icon (bluetooth manager) on the lower part of the screen on the taskbar/tray if you see the bluetooth icon, right-click on it then click "Enable Bluetooth Radio". Now, if there is no bluetooth icon on the tray at the lower right of the screen, go to Start, Toshiba, Bluetooth, Bluetooth Settings, inside the Bluetooth SEttings, click on Bluetooth, Options, CLick on Enable Bluetooth Power, also, inside the Tray Icon (still inside Bluetooth Settings) select an icon so you can always see the status of your bluetooth on the Tray and you don;t need to do and check everything everytime you cannot connect via Bluetooth.

Hope this helps.
