Question about Toshiba MD20F51 20 in. TV/DVD Combo
I have a BASE TV/DVD model DTC2181
No remote came with BSE TV/DVD combo model DTC2181 and l finally got around to buying a Logitech Harmony 525 multi-remote and l can get the TV part to work but when l try to operate the actual DVD button functions l can't play DVDs or choose options on the DVD menu as to what l want to see. I'm back to square one and just pushing the play button which plays all episodes if it is multi episodes. Not being able to have a choice with the DVD menu l'm back to square one.
Do you know where l could possibly get this model's remote from or would their be a remote out their that will also operate on this model with no problem.
This is a common problem for all combo units. The high voltage of the TV section attracts large amounts of particulate dust from the air and often it collects inside the DVD unit. The best way to deal with this is to clean the lens of the DVD unit u sing a cotton swab and alcohol. The store bought "cleaners" MAY work, but that is rare. These cleaners are nothing but small brushes embedded into a disc. They attempt to brush off hte dust. This rarely works. Open up the unit (if you feel comfortabel in doing so) to access the DVD section. Remove the top cover and carefully clean the lens. That should resolve the problem.

I have the same problem with my Tv too. There is No phone listing and the number given on the warrant policy is no longer connected. I rang Target and Base is their own brand. If anyone needs it the contact number for Target head office is 1800 814 788.

SOURCE: DVD Stuck in TV/DVD Combo
This may not sound technical, but I stuck the end of a paper clip into the opening until I could feel the dvd.....jiggled it a bit, and out it popped while pushing the eject button!!!

Here are the codes: take a deep breath:
0181, 1283, 0183, 1292, 0087, 0677, 0859, 0872, 1183, 1383, 1683, 1731
You may find that these don't work. Often, with combination pieces like yours, you will find you are lucky if you can get a universal remote to turn it on and change the volume and little more. The fact that Toshiba did not build this peice can compound the problem. My suggestion, if you can't get the universal to program up, is to use the original remote for the set. If you do not have the original remote it is available from www.encompassparts.com for around $15.00 plus shipping. The original part number for the Toshiba remote is 72796929.

Tips for a great answer:
There is no such thing as a 'universal remote'
since the coding is totally non-standard and may differ from one model to the
next even within one manufacturer's current lineup.
You may be
able to find a listing of models for a given remote here:
When thinking about buying a 'universal' remote,
get the model number and check the maker's website for a listing of models the
remote can control.
A "learning" remote that can accept commands from originals, as well as having a large number of code sets (thousands) that we have owned for ~ a year has been very satisfactory and at a bargain price:
Shipping is free but from China so count on 10-14 days delivery.
Finally, if the remote is older than the set you want to control, it probably won't have the necessary codes to control all of the device's functions if any at all.
