I have an MP540 and it says..."The PIXMA MP540 runs on five ink cartridges, with a photo black as well as a pigmented black for text printing" so it sounds like pigmented is for text and dye for pics. So maybe your default settings are showing high quality, photo or the paper type is causing the printer to select high quality...just a thought!

The only solution I could find that works is replacing the printer! I got sick and tired of fighting with it. I'd replaced the black ink cartridge, cleaned the printheads, then it said the cyan and yellow were out. FORGET THIS. I replaced it with a color laser printer and didn't look back. The bottom line is that the newer ink jet printers (all brands) will tell you the ink is out but what actually happens is that the date your ink cartridge has expired. I don't print much and got tired of the cost of replacing ink every time I needed to print just because of the date encoded on it!

SOURCE: printing text on pictures not scanned by canoscan lide 25.

You have to use a graphics application to do this. The LiDE 25 came with ArcSoft PhotoStudio that will allow you to apply text to your images.

Canon mg5200 printer is cutting off print from the left margin. How to fix?

You need to check the settings in the program you are using to print from. Check that paper size is set for the paper you are actually using. The usual culprit is A4 on program to Letter in the printer. Also check that Margins are set to Default.

CANON IP 4300 PRINTERS WILL ONLY PRINT ALTERNATE LINES

I think your text document didn't fit the page. I have done that before. It overruns and the extra becomes the lines inbetween. To fix this use microsoft publisher to print it so that you can choose the paper size and the borders and fit the document within the space allowed.

I70 Canon photo printer will not print after changing print cartridge.

Check the black cartridge and make sure the orange or yellow tape at the rear end is not still attached. If it covers the small hole on the top of the cartridge, the printer won't print black text.

My new canon mg5200 printer prints washed out colours compared to what is on the page i am printing from. I have changed the print resolution to high and that has helped a small amount. Can you please tell...

I think you will have to use the printer's "color management" to adjust the output to match what you see on the monitor screen. Go to Canon's website, it explains everything you need to alter the colour profile for your printer.

Faded text every few lines- Canon printer

When you print photos you print in Max dpi, for this no faded lines anywhere. Probably you have a problem only in black color in print head.
Мay be it's partially clogged or partially defective.

Prints purple instead of black on photos only

My Canon printer has TWO slots for black ink cartridges. I assumed one was extra and didn't replace it when I ran out. Text printed just fine with only one installed, but my photos were printing with purple instead of black. I looked into it, and the two cartridges are different: one holds dye-based ink, the other has pigment based. Photos must require both kinds. If your printer is the same as mine, use both!
