How hard is it to replace the fuse?

Yes I have a multimeter. There are two screws on the back that have a custom fitting torx or polydrive. I can rig something to get them out. Is there anything charged on the inside to worry about?

One of the most common problems when a microwave is no-lights-plug-it-in-turn-it-on-nothing happens-dead, is normally the high voltage fuse found running from the high voltage capacitor to the transformer(normally), ALWAYS DISCHARGE THE HIGH VOLTAGE CAPACITOR!!!!! IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW, FIND OUT BEFORE ATTEMPTING!!! A CAPACITOR CAN STORE DANGEROUS VOLTAGE!!!! But test your fuse, either by seeing if its blown burnt black or use your continuity function on your multimeter. other than that it will be the high voltage capacitor thats faulty or the small normal fuse could also be blown, sometimes found on a printed circuit board near where your power plug enters the unit.

You may have just blown a fuse inside the microwave or the transformer inside has now failed and will need replacing but it will need to be looked at to see what exactly happened

thanks for the rating but that hurts our score as only a fixya helps our score

I fix these all the time and it will take some time to walk you thru checking and or testing the unit if it needs to be

but the fuse will be on the power board inside the unit and may look ok but has just got old and quit in the covered areas of it , so testing it will be the only way to be sure it is connecting

    do have a meter?

  • jason Nov 27, 2008

yes ! the high voltage capacitor can still hold a charge , so be sure not to touch it even when the power is unplugged as it will still hold a charge( to discharge( only when needed) short the positive to chassi ground)also the negative

but checking the fuse should be ok , with the power cord unplugged ofcourse

then pulling the fuse out so you don't measure the transformer

if that is ok then you would need to make sure that voltage is comming out of the transformer

let me know what you get from those steps then we will go to the next step if needed

as long as the glass fuse is not soldered in then it should be easy to replace the fuse if it is the problem

  1. Every microwave I've seen has a fuse in the 110 VAC line. Remove the cover or access panels and look for a ceramic or glass tube fuse with metal end caps. Replace with the same value, which is often 20 Amps.

How do i replace a fuse on sunbeam microwave

If it does not heat, the magnetron tube died. Not worth repairing unless under warranty. Generally the only fuse is a main fuse. If it blew, the entire microwave would be dead.

Need your insight and troubleshooting on problem w/ our microwave

This could be the breaker at the panel or the fuse inside the microwave.I would check the panel box for any tripped breakers and then the fuse inside the unit.
