Yes i did use an original Sony Lamp, I even went as far as testing the lamp on a friends TV where it worked fine. The more i investigate i believe it could be the thermal fuse which has failed, could you give me some insight on how to replace it. also by lamp driver or "ballast" are you referring to the housing of the lamp?

I just replaced my lamp (authentic sony part) because it blew again. Ive had this tv 4 yr and replaced 2 bulbs. after i replaced the lamp, a blue tint on the bottom of my screen showed up, (i read that it was the optical block which cost $900) so i figured i would just deal with the blue for a while since i didnt have the money to fix it. Now after a week of changing the bulb my tv wont turn on. when i hit the button it bliks 5 times green then 6 red. The first time my bulb blew it actually melted the door so i had to rig up a piece to go inside the hole so that the tv thought the door was tightly closed. What do you think is the problem? Can I fix this? How much would it cost to do it myself or have someone else do it? I live in wpb, fl. thanks

when i turn my tv on the power light flashs 5x then keeps flashing red 6 times is it my bulb ?

  • Anonymous Feb 14, 2009

I also have the same problem. My TV no longer turns on. The Power Stand By light blinks green and red the first 2 -3 seconds then goes to red blinking for 1 minute. It seems that my lamp power supply failed as it did for the Guest that posted his comment on Nov 27, 2008. My question is, mistersony do you have the instructions to replace part 146879813 ?

It appearse that I have the same problem as the Guest that posted his comment on November 27, 2008. The light for my Power Standby on my TV turns green then red for 3-5 seconds then continues to blink red for about 1 minute. I believe that my lamp power supply has failed. My question is, mistersony (or anybody else) do you still hve the instructions to remove and replace part 146879813 ?

have a kdf60xbr950 Tv went black and lost sound. lamp light was flashing. purchased a sony bulb from local repair center (was told it was new) was unhappy to find it in a unsealed plastic bag.
original lamp was definetly blown. I replaced now green light flashes about 50 times then red/green flash 3 times then red(lamp) flashes about 60 times then red power light comes back on.
could this be a bad bulb?

It is unusually to see BOTH of these flash codes together. I have never seen them at the same time. A 5 flash is a lamp driver error, which is possibly related to your lamp failure. You may have to replace the lamp driver or "ballast" to correct this problem. The 6 flash is a power supply problem and more serious, as it will likely take a technician to narrow down exactly where the fault lies. It may be a thermal fuse open OR a failure in the power supply itself. What was the original symptom that caused you to replace the lamp? Did you use an original Sony lamp as a replacement?

Ok you used an original Sony lamp so that means your lamp power supply has failed. On your set, it is mounted on the rear of the optical block, not in the lamp. The part number is 146879811, replaced I believe by 146879813. The thermal fuse, if it is bad, is located in front of the optical block and can only be replaced by pulling the optical block at least partially out. It can be a challenging job and the risk of damaging the unit while doing the repair is very real and I wouldn't recommend you try it, but if you are determined, I can send you a set of instructions I wrote for another custome.

on most sony lcd projection tvs 6 red blinks is usually a defective thermal sensor. which is used for safety reasons in the tv in case in were to get too hot. the correct repair would be to replace the tempurature sensor and throughly clean all the internal fans near the lamp cartridge.

Tv will come on but shuts itself back off

Sounds like it just needs a new lamp.
The way to tell is the lights in front:
green blinking as TV reboots = bad lamp
red three blinks = door switch
red four blinks = bad fan
6 or 9 blinks = bad thermal fuse

Its not the green light that you should be count but the red. How many times is it blinking? Here is a quick update of the errors that are most common.

3x - Lamp switch not engaged
4x - Fans issue
5x - Lamp
6x - Thermal fuse

Green flashing is normal. Red flashes are error codes. Count the error flashes.

3x - Lamp cover position or cover detect switch bad.
4x - One or more fans failed RPM test
5x - Lamp power supply/ballast failure
6x - Thermal fuse failed (usually)

in this set 3 blinks means lamp cover not set properly but i think that your problem is your 6x red blinks that means you have a problem in the audio section in your set(missing a voltage) or a themal fuse open.

The problem you have is a failed thermal sensor. Depending on how tech savvy you are you can replace it.They have changed the way the thermal sensor looks but it isnt too bad too put in. Any repair shop should also be able to do this for you.

Part number is 1-910-006-44 Themal Fuse Sony Part.
