My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.
What bothers me is that changing these components increased your flame size?
1.) Make sure you have the correct gas safety valve. These valves are preset to inches of water column.
2.) The ignitor has nothing to do with your flame size. What happens is the oven thermocouple controls your oven temperature. When your oven get about 40 degrees above the set temperature, the ignitor and controlling gas components will shut down. When your oven temperature falls below the set temperature the ignitor and gas components will turn back on. There are ovens called accurate, which are expensive and do not have a 80 degree swing.
3.) Ok. Gas regulator. It is adjustable. Generally you have about a 7" water column pressure going into the regulator and 1" to 4" water column pressure coming out.
At the top of the gas regulator you have a long stem. Inside this stem is a shaft with a spring at the top and a valve at the bottom. In between is a rubber diagram which controls the valve based on the gas inlet and outlet pressure.
4.) Adjust. Turn the gas supply off to the range. Turn on the oven and gas burners to bleed the gas from the system.
There is a slot at the top of the stem. With a flat head screw driver, turn the stem top 1/8 of a turn counter clockwise to reduce the regulator outlet pressure. Turn the gas supply back on to check the flame. You may have to repeat this process to get your desired flame.
On the top of pressure regulater is a removalable piece that fits one way for nautral gas and the other way for propane i am wondering it was installed upside down afer ya reassambled it, accidenttly setting it to propane which defeintly will cause that
Check if flame is turning on. If there is flame but no heat, then the most common fault is the temperature probe sensor, located inside the cavity.This will affect both broiling and baking function.
If there is no flame check if the glow bar or spark igniter is working. If ignitor is OK, test the valve coils. The coils are tested using a multimeter set on Ohms on the coil contacts. If the circuit is open (no continuity-Ohms infinity), then the coil is bad and must be replaced.
Other part that may result in no flame is the flame sensor. this fault is less common.
Check also gas pressure and pressure regulator if present.
the valve your talking about with the two wires on it is the safety valve and should not let gas in without the ignightor being on sounds like its leaking i recommend shutting the gas off till the valve is replaced there is no piolet light on theese ranges
You need to tighten down the orifice spud for the bake burner. Remove drawer in bottom of oven. Look for bottom of burner tube, where the shutter adjustment is. Right below it is the orifice spud. Usually a goldish color. Take 1/2 inch open end wrench and tighten until it stops. Do-not overtighten! Try it now. If flames are still to high, tighten a little more. Repeat if needed.
