Need help with dishwasher

My father's dishwasher will not start. The "clean" light keeps flashing and nothing I do makes it stop. I have tried pushing the cancel button many times but the "clean" light continues to blink and it won't start. Some time ago this happened, and a Sears technician gave me instructions over the phone to push a series of buttons in a particular order and it reset the dishwasher and worked fine. It has happened again but I've been unsuccessful now in finding anyone to help. Can you help me?

It's been two weeks since first posting this request and I have received no answers.

Jan.26 --I appreciate the attempt to help. I tried the "two key dances" but it did not work. I also removed the toe panel and found the problem addressed on the instructions. It did not give any suggestions for reseting. It gave instructions on doing a diagnostic test on the heating system. This was too technical for me so I have a repairman coming next week. If the solution is simple, I will get back to you. Not sure how to rate this but I appreciate your help.

This is a followup to my father's dishwasher problem. I now have the solution which I will share. Hit the keys in this order:
    high-temp, heat-dry, high-temp, heat-dry
What this does is put it in a diagnostic mode. It may take a minute or two but should clear everything. If not, try again.
I am told any power interruption while the dishwasher is heating or drying, can throw it off. The manufacturer will not tell you this but will insist on coming to your home and charging you a big fee.
Hope this helps others in the same circumstances.

What can I say? A non-working dishwasher with a briefly blinking start light that wouldn't start... I was sure I was doomed! Repair bill or new dishwasher?
I have a Whirlpool Gold Quiet Partner 3. The series of buttons as described worked! God bless you ... God bless you! What an awsome fix!

Thanks a lot for all your contributions. I've purchased the model in July 2007. "high-temp, heat-dry, high-temp, heat-dry" wouldn't do it for me but I find that "sani-rinse, heat-dry, sani-rinse, heat-dry" kick started the diagnosis for me and it starts running.

Kansans...one of the two key dances High temp-air dry-high temp-air dry or high temp-normal-high temp-normal. There was a heater quality rework on this model. Check to see if yours was affected. If you look behind the toe panel on the bottom of the dishwasher, the tech sheet should be there. This will give you instructions and trouble shooting. Sorry no one got back with you, the cat here has been swamped...Catriver..post back.

The CLEAN light is flashing on my Kenmore QuietGuard3 , but it won't clean anything. It starts a cycle for a few minutes, stops and starts flashing clean again. Any suggestions?

You will have to reset the dishwasher. First try and turn off the mains power and back on after a short time. If the clean light flashing starts again then you go through the hard reset procedure.

press NORMAL WASH then HEATED DRY buttons one after the other until all the lights on the board lit up (3X's). The dishwasher will enter into a cycle; Press Cancel. This should stop the flashing.
If you are supplying dishwasher from hot water inlet then make sure the inlet water temperature stays within the recommended range of 145 deg F.

The "clean" button is flashing & none of the other cycles work.

heated dry and high temp wash
toggle till all the lights light up
then hit cancel
you should be able to turn dishwasher back on
you probably have a bad heater
is it flashing 7 times
take kick panel off and look to the rear of the dishwasher
is anything burned
if the clean light keeps blinking replace your heater

Clean light flashing

This may help in your situation. The following link explains how you may be able to clear the blinking clean light problem:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r417123-blinking_clean_light_kenmore_whirlpool

Now...keep in mind all dish washers are not alike and have different panel options. If you do not have the same set up as I have referenced, the tech sheet for your dishwasher will explain. The tech sheet is located behind the lower toe panel under the door and lists the proper sequence of buttons to push for diagnostics and troubleshooting.

NOTE: Sometimes the tech sheet is located behind the inner door panel. You will need to remove the screws securing the inner panel to access it if this is the case. Make sure you turn off the main power breaker before doing so.

Sometimes this can be a momentary glitch in operation. However, if the problem keeps reoccuring the number of flashes is an indication of which circuit is causing your problem. Again, refer to your tech sheet to determine this.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you solve your problem.

Clean light flashes constanly. Won't clear out to start new cycle

If the clean light flashes 7 times, pauses, then repeats...

When the dishwasher doesn't sense a water temperature increase, it will stop working and lock the functions (clean light flashes 7 times, all buttons are non responsive). It does this as a safety in case the element is broken and feeding electrical current into the water.

To resolve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence...

-high temp wash
-heated dry
-high temp wash
-heated dry

...all the lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic cycle. You can press cancel or let the diagnostic cyle finish (1-2 minutes).
You should now be able to run the dishwasher as normal.

If the issue returns, you could have a problem with the heating circuit (ie. element, thermostat or wiring). It rarely happens but it could also be the door switch not engaging properly when the door is closed (slightly bend the door latch down making sure it doesn't hit the door when you close it).

Clean light keeps blinking and I can't start a new cycle

That is a comon problem with that model. It is not sensing a temperature change in the water.

Push i believe it is heated dry and sani rinse going back and fourth between the two to clear the code and see if you can get it to complete a cycle. If it doesnt call sears and schedule service there is a service flash repair that should not cost you anything to repair the unit.

Kenmore dishwasher, model 665.170 344 01. "Clean" light keeps flashing and will not stop. Have tried everything in the manual and the light still will not stop flashing.

I just read this for the same problem: push sanitize, then heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, cancel, then open and close the door. It worked. The dishwasher is running correctly even as I type this.
