Question about Compaq Presario Notebook
I have a Compaq Presario c300. When I plug in the AC Adapter... it runs fine for a good while, but then just cuts off. I try to power it back on, but the lightning bolt light on the front blinks 3 times... that's it.
When I leave it alone for a good while... sometimes I'm able to cut it back on again....
It sounds to me like there's a short in the AC adapters causing it to have enough power to charge the unit when it's not pulling power, but once it starts pulling power, it basically becomes overwhelmed and can't do both power and charge. There's also the chance that the DC jack [which the AC adapter plugs into] is bad. However I'd suggest checking the adapter first because it's simple to obtain a new one and if it doesn't work, you can most likely just return it and say it doesn't work as opposed to a dc jack being repaired which would have to be done by a professional with the skills to handle it [of course unless it's under warrenty, less than a year old, but judging by the model I'd say it's probably not]

That may not be a problem with the AC adapter. After connecting to the wall socket and switch on and check the output voltage at the DC out. if that is OK, the problem is most likely with the motherboard.Either with the power jack or there is mosfets & capacitors in the power up & charging circuit as well as other small components that may fail overtime or by hard use.. A good motherboard chiplevel technician can easily fix it for you. Hope this may help.

Could be a bad mother board or a hard drive..see if you can connect the hard drive with a USB on another machine and run a test on it...

Have you tried attaching an external monitor when the LCD screen is disconnected from the motherboard? this connector is located under the keyboard strip – a piece of plastic just above the keyboard.
If it works, this way, then the video cable isn’t seated properly in the connector on the back of the screen. Plugging the video cable back in should fix the problem.
I don’t know how comfortable you are with taking apart laptops but I think that this information could be useful for you.
