Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you want to secure the network you all you need to do is to access the router settings page and put a security either WEP, WPA or WPA2 and a Network Key or Passphrase.

To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.2.1, the Default password is blank

Click on Security under Wireless, Select WEP, WPA or WPA2 and personalize a Security Key or Network Key (Passphrase). Security Key serves as a password on the network.

Am i able to connect to the internet using WLAN without te security keys (WEP)

If the wireless network that you are trying to connect, is unsecured then you can connect without the WEP key.
but if the wireless network is secured then you will need the KEY or the password for the wireless network. Without the key you won't be able to connect to the secured wireless network.
If you have the router then you can check the wireless settings of the router and find the wireless network key.

We have 2 computers networked through a router. I have just got a new computer and when I try to connect to the network it asks me for a security key. What is this?

It would seem that your network is actually wireless. What you could do is double check the security key for your wireless network on your router or you could check the other 2 computers, if they are connected wirelessly, for the security key. Then use that security key on your new computer.

D-link 802.11g wireless router security key

First, go to your router's ip address (192.168.0.1).
Then, login to your router (default username: admin default pass: blank or admin)
There, under tools or network security or similar to that sort, look for your network/WEP key. There, you should be able to find your network key to access the router's network, and even change it if needed.'
Hope this helps, please rate ^_^
