My printer only prints color..have installed new black cartridge but still only prints color so installed another new black cartridge and still only prints color

Unlike most printers where the print cartridge and printheads are attached and sold together, the ESP 3 has a separate printhead from the cartridges.

Remoe both cartridges. Then look at the place where the cartridges sit. There is a latch you push down in the back. This will release the printhead to allow it to be removed.

Remove the print head

Take a cotton swap and a little alcohol and clean the printhead of all ink. Repeat this until it is totally clean.

Make sure the printhead is dry and clean of all ink and alcohol.

Replace the printhead.

Place cartridges in and test.

If this does not work, then you need a new printhead for this printer.

here is an example of how to remove and replace printheads for thsi unit.
http://faqs.kodak.com/atg/faq/attachments/AUR1780-2.pdf

to gt a new printhead you must contact kodak
http://www.kodak.com/go/contact

probably as expensive or almost as expensive as a new printer.

The seperate printhead from the carts are why kodak can have their ink so cheap. Those other brands cost that extra 15-20$ for the attached new head with each cart.

Hello,

First, go to Canon i9900 Support

If the Support & Service tab is not selected, click on it.

In the search box type reseating printhead and click Search.

One of the results will be "How do I reseat/remove the printhead?"

Click it. A step by step (with animation) will be shown. Just install the new printhead when it calls to reseat the printhead.

Make sure you do the printhead alignment after installing. if you are unsure about how to do this, go back to the support page above and search for align printhead. There will be step by step instructions for this too.

I just received a new printhead for my Kodak easy share 5300 How do I install it?

Installing the Printhead. While the lid on the scanner obviously is designed to open, so is the top couple of inches of the printer. Opening the printer access door, as it's called, reveals the printhead carriage. Remove the orange tape.
There are nice little notches on all the packages so you know exactly where to tear them. We can't be the only people in the world who appreciate this little touch.
More importantly, the delicate parts of the printhead are protected by orange plastic. Follow the installation poster to remove each in order carefully. Then place the printhead into its carriage and press it firmly forward until it clicks into place.
Let's repeat that: Press it until it clicks. Engineers take note. Usually, that's exactly how you break stuff. You press it until it clicks. Cracks, breaks. Generally, the installation was simple, but this step reminded us of a lot of other printer installations that require a lot of force to accomplish something. Yes, you should feel as if you're about to break the printhead. But you won't. It will click ... into place.
We found out a minute later why such a firm connection had to be made. When you install the ink cartridges in the printhead you have to press down on them. Were it not for the click that grabs the printhead securely, pressing down on an ink cartridge would dislodge the printhead.

Here is the printer installation tutorial:

copy and paste the complete link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Hi Tammy,

Installing the print head is really easy. Actually, it just snaps out and the new one snaps in. The key is where you press on the print head to do this. If you go to the following URL you will see how to accomplish this. Go to:

http://www.kodak.com/global/plugins/acrobat/en/service/manuals/AiOPrinters/5300AiOPrinterUG_EN-US.pdf

This shows you how to change the print head in a 5300 model. It is similar to the others as well.

If this does not work for you. contact the 800 421 6699 number and ask them to walk you through installing the print head. It will only take a couple of minutes.

Best regards,

Ron Baird
