Question about Computers & Internet

Replaced 128mb with 512mb in Dell Dimension 4400. Plugged everything back in & turned on. Or at least think it is turned on; there is a green light for both the power button and hard drive lights. Had flat screen attached and there is not light. So unplugged and put in a Dell monitor, the light goes green then yellow. I am not sure the 4400 is even on but the dvd and cd rom works and other lights are on.

If you have replaced the memory on a computer and it does not turn on normally that means that either the memory is defective or it is not compatible. Do you hear beeps when you turn on the computer?

Flashing Amber power LED indicates a bad power supply.

A solid power LED is either a bad component connected to the motherboard or a bad motherboard

Sure you can, its just 4 screws in the back-be sure to match the wattage -- also you can test the old one with A VOM meter

Dimension 4400 is very slow what is the problem. I have uninstalled windows and reinstalled and it is still very slow about booting and surfing web and performing tasks.

This computer has only 1.7ghz and 256mb ram. That is your biggest problem. On windows XP its recommended to have at least 512mb of ram, and 1gb would be even better. Ram is the best way to speed up your computer, as its very cheap and packs a punch. If you want to upgrade your processor, you may want to look at another computer, as they can be very expensive at times.

Total newbie here - how do I add more memory to my DELL Dimension 2300? I have my cpu open and i am replacing my fan also.

Well your Dell 2300 has a total max. memory of 1 GB from both slot.
If you already have (2) 512MB RAM in the slot then thats the max it can handle.

Dell 2300 only has 2 memory slots. Memory comes in 1- 128MB, 256MB and 512MB PC-133 DIMM modules. So if you want to max it out get (2) 512 MB PC-133 DIMM.

Note:

You must wear a static strap or ground yourself first on the computer chassis before you touch any thing inside your computer
to discharge any static electricity

Want to buy more RAM..

Your dell dimension takes DDR ram. These are the specs:

Supported pin types: 184 pin DIMM (regular desktop DDR ram)
Supported memory types: DDR PC2700 or DDR PC3200
Supported speeds: 333mhz or 400mhz
Supported stick sizes: 128mb, 256mb, 512mb or 1gb.
MAXIMUM MEMORY ALLOWED: 2gb (2 x 1gb sticks)

If you buy two of these you will max out for ram and give you the best performance::
