I just had this problem and it was bad. No matter what I did, the DW would not run. Finally, I found and checked the float switch. Actually, I didn't even know what a float switch looks like. Fortunately, I found a YouTube video that showed what a float switch looks like. My float switch was actually fine. However, a small piece of plastic had gotten jammed under it. I removed the piece of plastic and now everything works. Really easy to resolve in my case.

sounds like wash motor is not going . it will fill and control thinks motor is working . then it will drain wash water / ( drain pump is a different motor ) and then refill and so on .. never washes but fills and drains and heats. ( look for leakage under the motor i'm sure you will find some ..

It appears your dispenser wax switch has failed in this instance.
For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...
FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.
PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.
If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.
Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.
If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

I just spent 2 days debugging the same message on Kenmore Elite model 665.13962K017. After replacing the float switch (which turned out to be unnecessary), and paying $9.95 for the service manual, which is really a Whirlpool manual b/c Kenmore OEMs this unit from them, even though they change the control panel (and it also didn't help), I tried as a last gasp to raise the front of the machine as high as possible using the adjustable feet in front. This presumably allows more water into the machine before the float engages. Seems to work for me...
