Question about Philips DVDR3320 DVD Recorder/VCR

Philips dvdr 3320v picture freezing

Recently, when playing dvds the picture has been "freezing." i have tryed to resolve this by ejecting the dvd and turning the power on/off, yet the point at which the dvd froze is still shown on screen and i cant reload the dvd. the only way i have found to solve this is by switching the mains power off then on. though this does not solve the problem as it reoccurs when playing another dvd

i have had same problem with this unit and vcr buttons ,dvd dont respond after 3 mins of playing.

i foound that the cpu behind dvd player on circuit board was very hot!

solution was to remove rear chassis mounted fan and place above cpu with blobs of blue tack to hold in place.

    have had no ploblems since

Be sure there is plenty of space around the DVD player. I place mine on top of the cabinet without anything on top if it. Being enclosed seem to affect some DVD players. Also, dust frequently...

Philips HTS3565D dvd player, recent Paramount DVDs (Star Trek and Transformers 2) freeze during the Paramount DVD introduction at the exact same spot: as the stars are flying in toward the camera's view....

I have the same problem, though I don't recall which exact movies. They were all from Blockbuster. Sometimes they start to play and then halt at the end of track 1 and sometimes don't even make it tot he menu. The same movie will play on our portable dvd player. A Philips rep told me about 6 weeks ago it was a problem with a new security feature on some movies and to watch the website for a possible firmware upgrade to fix it. Now you can't even talk to someone at Philips so I don't know what to think. The "live chat" folks just want to tell you to take it to a repair shop - not much help there.

I have a dvdr3380 lately when i put in disc it says disc unrecord

Test the created DVD with TMPGEnc v4.0 Xpress here is the free trial link It has a read source function that will fail if the DVDR has not been authored correctly.

If this works and scans in the full DVDR then I suggested that you buy a branded DVD+R like Philips who created the format, if this still fails I think you DVDR 3380 will need a service.

1}DVDR 3480 playback on many Dvds widescreen insteadof 4.3 as set. 2) my Vcr. has 3pin phono. Dvdr scart to Phono .Xt2 says nosignal. Phono tophono (cam socket) no signal .cannot copt tape to DVD. 3)B W...

1) The 4:3 / 16:9 option only optimises playback for that particular type of TV. The 4:3 setting also allows you to set the output between:

  • 4:3 PS - expands the picture vertically and horizontally which gets rid of the black bars, but you also lose the left and right edges of the picture.
  • 4:3 LB - Letterbox format, displays the full picture from the disc, with black bars top and bottom.
The PS option loses the bars on 16:9 widescreen DVDs, but may still leave bars on true cinema widescreen DVDs, which are 21.7:9
This is normal.
  • 16:9 - Optimises the picture for a widescreen TV. Again True cinema widescreen DVDs will still have black bars.
2) All of the external inputs will show "No signal" until there is actually a signal playing into them.
EG to copy VHS to DVD, you will need to select the relevant scart or phono input, and press play before the recorder will register a signal and allow recording.
Some bought VHS videos have copy protection, and may cause problems when copying to DVD.

3) Greenish playback maybe caused by colour setting on TV being too high. Also check Hue or Tint settings on the TV, if it has them.

4) For some reason, in their infinite wisdom, Philips omitted the Video Plus facility from this model.

Picture rolls horizontalic and verticalic

This may have to do with your TV instead of the DVD player. If you have a red, blue and green cable running from the Philips to your TV, check the back of the TV to see if it has a slot marked "H/V". If so, purchase a 7-part component cable instead of the usual 5-part - it will have a red/green/blue, red/white, and two h/v cables.
