Kenmore Elite 24952 topload washer stops after rinse before drain

To start it, I open the lid and close it hard, and the cycle will complete. Is this a major problem or easy to fix?

Is the lid lock tang on lid broken.
2.9 Lid Lock
The Phase 7 Washer uses the same lid lock that is used on
the Phase 6 series 11 & 12 machines. The difference being is that the lid is now locked for the entire cycle. When the lid is locked the Lid Locked LED will illuminate. Once the spin
has completed, the lock will release and the lid can be
opened. To open the lid during the cycle the
START/PAUSE button must be pressed, the machine will
come to a halt, and the lid locked LED will extinguish.
If the lid is left open, the machine will be unable to lock the lid
and the cycle will be halted. The machine will play a tune
and the lid lock will flash until the lid is closed and START/PAUSE is pressed.
• If the lid-lock fails in the closed position, the locked lid can be forced upwards and out of the
lock. Note: This is the only time in which we would recommend doing this.
• If the harness is damaged, the complete lid lock assembly will need to be replaced.
If the power supply is cut during the spin cycle, the machine will keep the lid locked until the rotor has ceased to turn (3 to 10 secs). Only then will it release the lock. The motor is acting like a generator and allows the lock to stay energized under the bowls inertia.

Washing machine will not start washing when lid is lowered

ya. not a big problem it seems. here it goes
when ever you close the lid the tip of lid touches a sensor which signals the control board to start the rinse cycle.
now these many days that sensor has been in dying stage. that is why you were often closing it to let the cycle open.
now that sensor has completely dies.
just replace the sensor at the point where the lid touches the opening.
after that enjoy washing.

3 problems: 1. lower drawer is hard to close; seems to be sticking on something. 2. lower drawer retains water (2 inches) after completing a cycle. 3. F1 fault code on both drawers with alert...

ok where to start, first thing the bottom draw is hard to close because they use 2 little motors on either side to pull a lid with a seal on it down on top of each draw when u start it to keep the water in, if its hard to close the motors are damaged and arnt lifting the lid back up when the cycle finishes making it hard to open and shut, now the F1 fault means the filter circuit board in the base of the machine has been activated basically a flood sensor (and controls minor components ie lid actuators), the unit should beep and flash and go spaztic and you should hear the drain pump come on continuously til u turn it off at the wall thats its way of trying to stop a leak by removing any water it can but will not actually remove the water from the base where the switch is, you will probably find it will work now as the water will have dried and stopped triggering the switch but wont stay like that for long, that machine has major issues its leaking bad from somewhere and id say it leaked onto the lid motors and fried em, the parts you will most probably have to replace is the filter board in the base, both bottom draw lid actuators (small motors), probably the bottom draw lid if you damaged the seal pulling the draw in and out and whatever is leaking and if any other componets where damaged by water, so if its outta warranty id go buy a new 1 with 5 year extended warranty

It sounds like your lid switch is bad . Raise the lid , and insert something into the lid switch hole on the top ( where the lid actuator goes into the hole ) , to see if the washer drains . Without your complete model number , can't give you a part number .

This is the deal, your washer is way to old to fix. The board is going bad and that is why it will not cycle properly. It would cost about $150.00 to fix and that does not even include labor. Consider craigslist as you can find some great deals from 40-60 for a newer one. Hope this helps.
