55HDX99 picture is getting darker and darker. Have adjusted settings but no improvement. It's 4 years old and has probably less than 7000hrs.

The only thing we havent done is use a calibration disk.

I would try that if available but suspect a bad board somewhere in the set--average life on all Plasma sets is 3-5 years so maybe time to upgrade to a new set?

you cleaned the reflector glass, then tried to make the manual adjustment of the color to have good convergence. you can do the adjustment in the menu set up. if can not get with adjustment, their might be a problem in the convergence circuit board.a bad convergence ic or resistor.

Not a clear picture

CRT projection televisions need periodic maintenance to maintain a clear picture. Typically, to maintain a sharp picture, they require cleaning and alignment every two or three years. If the television is being used in an environment where there is cigarette smoke or other smoke sources, the optics inside the television can become dirty and cause the picture to blur. Additionally, CRT focus and alignment wander over time, or physical CRT alignment can be knocked out if the set is bumped or dropped. All RCA CRT projection televisions have an "alignment" or "convergence" adjustment in their adjustment menus, which are fairly simple to use. The convergence feature is usually accessible from the main menu of the television. Check your User's Manual for the procedure to touch-up the convergence adjustment and see if you are able to achieve a sharper picture. If the optics in your set have not been cleaned for several years, or if it is in a smoky environment, the picture will be blurry and usually a brownish color, In any case, since the set is several years old at this point, it's likely due for a cleaning. This is best done by a technician, and mostly involves physical cleaning of internal lenses, the refractor mirror on the back of the chassis, and the back of the opaque display screen. An adjustment of CRT bias controls and individual CRT focus adjustments will bring further improvement in the image sharpness and clarity.

My picture is getting darker and I can't brighten it up enough . would all the lamps be going out or what ever power them up be going bad.Any voltage checks be performed??

this set is over 11 years old now. All RPTVs have three CRTs light guns that create's massive static electricity. if this sets lenses and mirror have never been cleaned, this is why its getting darker. there is probably a massive build up of dust/dirt and grime on the light guns and mirror. clean these and it will perform like new again.

My kp 53s65 picture seems to be darker now than when i bought it. is this normal in a dlp tv ? someone told me to change the buld but i was not sure if i should.

KP53S65 is a rear projection Sony several years old--It is not a DLP and does not have a bulb--it has three picture tubes---if the set has not been serviced in a long time here is what you can do to try to improve it:

1.) Unplug set
2.) Remove back cover
3.) You will see 3 black lens (one for each tube)
4.) With a paper towel (spray glass cleaner on it) clean the dust from the three lens---if they have not been cleaned in a long time and have dust on them the picture will be darker and less distinct.

5.) Replace back cover and plug set in to see if this has helped----I have seen some where there was so much dust on the lens that it looked 50% better after just cleaning the lens--depending on area you live in--should be cleaned once a year.

I do this here for free so if this has helped you please take a minute to give me a vote here.

Picture getting darker over the years

It could be your Light Engine. However, I would first check a few things:

1. Make sure your Low Power/Lamp settings are adjusted so that they meet your brightness needs.

2. Make sure you used a Mitsubishi original lamp, as generics get chewed through fast and hard.

3. Try another lamp; sometimes you can get a bad one in the bunch.

All those things don't work, consider a Light Engine ($400 + for parts; $300+ for labor)

Darker picture

Clean the lenes inside of the TV and the mirror and screen (a little dust build up on these three things adds up quick!) also if you smoke that can build up too! these tvs have too be cleaned inside
